23. Even some freepers are turning on Bush ...
'Bush Beats LBJ on Spending'

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1499381/posts

some posts:

'Woo Hoo! Just wait until his massive medicare drug give away kicks in! He'll be number one with a bullet!'

'Yeah, along with the increasing number of ILLEGAL MEXICANS with their noses in the government pig trough...'

'Just goes to show that Bush is as addicted to alcohol as he is to spending. Someone should tell Laura to get Bush into Over Spenders Anonymous.'

'It doesn't help that we have a lot of Republican House and Senate members who haven't seen a pork barrel they didn't like.
I can't get that d@#M $500,000 dollar fish painting out of my mind. We need new options. We need to be able to hold these idiots accountable.'

'George Bush is no conservative. Every day, new facts bear that out. It is a bitter pill to swallow, and many loylaists here refuse to accept that reality.'

'You cannot argue facts in the face of a personality cult.'

4. I find it amazing to listen to
Buchanan ranting about the christian coalition controlling the courts, but not once mentioning the party's culture of corruption. The hypocrisy of these christian types is too much to bear. Thou shall not steal is completely ignored as long as their party is in power.

I hope they realize that the contradictions in their selective philosophy are all in the open. The emperor is now naked along with his goons - it is all about power.

10. 'How dare GW put his *own* crony on the SC instead of *our* crony!'
Edited on Sun Oct-09-05 10:36 AM by Marr
That little faction has been focussed on the Supreme Court almost exclusively for ages. Bush appointing one of his own toadies to the spot is driving them insane. They expected him to put the far-right agenda ahead of the the interests of the country, and instead he's put the George W. agenda first.

They don't care about cronyism- they demand it, in fact. But Miers isn't *their* crony.

13. Do you actually believe them? Seriously?
Knowing that these whores will do anything, say anything, to get what they want? Doesn't the possibility exist that all their chest-thumping is just for show, hoping that some Democratic Senators will vote for Miers because the extreme right-wing monsters pretend to be dead-set against her? She's nothing more than a female Clarence Thomas (though actually less well qualified). Watch Will, Buchanan, et al curl up and purr once she's confirmed.

But there are so many of them screaming, and their anger is so visceral, I now believe they are truly pissed. There is a good chance she won't even get out of committee. Brownback says he might vote against her, and some other Repuke on the committee also indicated that.

24. Golly...and Krauthammer too
Big surprise --sleezebag pundits George Will and Charles Krauthammer (and Kristol too?) are SO shocked and outraged by Miers' lack of qualifications (!?!) "her nomination is an insult to the institution..."

Oh yeah...grab that high moral ground, y'all :eyes:

What Krauthammer wrote today:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/06/AR2005100601468.html?sub=AR

Withdraw This Nominee
By Charles Krauthammer
Friday, October 7, 2005

"When in 1962 Edward Moore Kennedy ran for his brother's seat in the Senate, his opponent famously said that if Kennedy's name had been Edward Moore, his candidacy would have been a joke. If Harriet Miers were not a crony of the president of the United States, her nomination to the Supreme Court would be a joke, as it would have occurred to no one else to nominate her.

We've had quite enough dynastic politics over the past decades. (Considering the trouble I have had with Benjamin and William Henry Harrison, I pity the schoolchildren of the future who will have to remember who was who in the Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton presidential alternations from 1989 to 2017.) But nominating a constitutional tabula rasa to sit on what is America's constitutional court is an exercise of regal authority with the arbitrariness of a king giving his favorite general a particularly plush dukedom. The only advance we've made since then is that Supreme Court dukedoms are not hereditary.

(snip)

"This, say her advocates: We are now at war, and therefore the great issue of our time is the powers of the president, under Article II, to wage war. For four years Miers has been immersed in war-and-peace decisions and therefore will have a deep familiarity with the tough constitutional issues regarding detention, prisoner treatment and war powers.

Perhaps. We have no idea what her role in these decisions was. But to the extent that there was any role, it becomes a liability. For years -- crucial years in the war on terrorism -- she will have to recuse herself from judging the constitutionality of these decisions because she will have been a party to having made them in the first place. The Supreme Court will be left with an absent chair on precisely the laws-of-war issues to which she is supposed to bring so much."
