Singaporeans jailed for anti-Muslim remarks

Two ethnic Chinese men became the first bloggers in Singapore to be punished under the country’s tough anti-sedition law for posting anti-Muslim comments on the Internet.

Benjamin Koh, 28, was given two concurrent one-month jail sentence while Nicholas Lim, 25, was jailed for one day and fined 5,000 Singapore dollars (2,960 U.S.) after they pleaded guilty Friday to the June offences.
...
"Racial and religious hostility feeds on itself," he (The Judge) added.
...
"And so, racial harmony and religious harmony are of utmost importance in Singapore, which is why when somebody went and published some racist blogs recently, we came down very hard," he said.

"All you need is one crazy guy and a disaster takes place and an enormous rent happens, a tear in the fabric of society."

What do you think? Good idea or bad? What about Robertson, Falwell, et al. (The rabidly insane anti-gay preacher, his name escapes me at present)

1. Good...
I don't know the Singapore law in detail and don't know what the two men wrote, but I can agree with this:

"The doing of an act which has a seditious tendency to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between races or classes of the population in Singapore is serious," judge Richard Magnus said.

Multi-racial Singapore works hard to promote racial and religious harmony."

We have laws against hate-speech in Europe and it's working very well. And it doesn't touch "freedom of the press" or anything like that, either :) If you had laws like this the influence of your foaming-at-the-mouth-socalled-Christians would be much, much smaller.
