It's getting bad folks. Whatever they attack I embrace/defend.
Whatever they embrace I attack/criticize.

OK, that's an exaggeration (On occasion...), it's not everything, but I can see it happening far too often to me as well as many other Liberals/Leftys. The pressure to blindly react is growing and while often it's correct it can also turn ugly.

But how does one become the automatron that only sees the rational? Is it possible in these conditions?

I've seen one rule of interaction/debate fall after another, when will it stop? Will it stop?

Is this a reaction to the Right's effective (Domination of the message) Media demonization of the Left?

What other avenues do we have besides reaction other than capitulation?

1. Polarization, processes, painful transitions

As the polarization of the society intensifies, and the unlikelihood of a political solution becomes increasingly difficult to deny, there is a natural process, I think, a transition from one way of thinking to another.

Neither capitulation nor reaction in kind is acceptable. Sometimes when you slide down far enough into the pit, the only way back up is the hard way.

Many people in many parts of the world are going through the same thing.

2. I agree. The polarization is a difficult to stop force.
When that happens one considers things that at one time they'd never consider. Like the protests, I never imagined I'd be in DC protesting...Ever...Until the current mess started then I was there, sign and all.

Oh well, that silly Chinese "curse" is upon us, we live in "Interesting Times".
