Any proof Michael Moore was physically helping Katrina victims?
For arguments sake, I am looking for proof that Michael Moore physically helped out with the Hurrican Katrina effort. Does anyone have any pictures of him helping or a news article that states he physically helped out? I've been to his web site and haven't read anything that says "he" actually helped out. Thanks.

1. Not sure but there's definitely photographic proof that * didn't do squat!
Which should be more of a concern especially since Michael Moore isn't the pResident.

14. Physically Helped
Basically, I am looking for proof that Michael Moore was physically in Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama helping with the Katrina effort. A pic or an article that showing he was "there" would be great. On his website, he mentioned his staff was in the Gulf helping out, but I didn't see anything where he said he was there. Any help would be great!@

18. I don't think he made this into a photo op like Bush did.
He just went and helped out.

I imagine at some point we'll get some footage of the disaster via Mr. Moore.

Even if they didn't 'help physically'?

there, "physically?" The man helped to raise a TON of money via his web site. He closed up his office in NY (?) and sent his entire staff to NOLA and the Gulf Coast and helped the Veterans for Peace. Why do you want to know if he was there?

I work at a Barnes & Noble in a VERY Gun-toting conservative town, and I alwas recommend Mike's books....Of course, the people in this town will cover my recommendations with crap like 'Slander' and stuff like that....::sigh:: Lovely Santee, California. We always get hate calls about our store, people harassed us about that stupid swift boat book. They accused us of holding it in the back, and not selling it. Anyway, I've made my dent recommending Mike's books. Especially 'Will they ever trust us again'. The military families liked that one.

What sort of strawman arguments are you getting into? Did it go something like:

Smoke Screen: Well, Bush didn't do anything to help with the Hurricane Katrina effort!

Freeper: He's the President! He's not supposed to get his lily-white hands dirty. Besides, what exactly did Michael Moore do to help out? Huh?

I don't believe MM ever said he, personally, was there. Just his staff. But, if he did go there, and there were pictures, then the right would say it was a publicity stunt. If he didn't go there, then the right would say, "see, he doesn't care... all talk no action". Just sayin'

And if I'm not mistaken, I think I heard he is/was actually somewhere for an intensive weight loss program or something like that? If that's the case, he wouldn't be in much of a position to go to New Orleans.

I'll see if I can hunt down a link.

Edit: I'm not certain how reliable this is, since it just comes from a blog that cites The New York Post, but he apparently was entering a facility to lose weight on or about August 24.

41. Why is that important to you? Here is what Moore has done:
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=187

He doesn't need photo ops, doesn't need to hold up relief while he poses.. he puts his money where his mouth is and accomplishes what you'll read in the above link. He may have been down there, or he may have simply instigated the enormous relief effort you'll read about in that link. Bush has gone down there 5 times, and was physically there.. he did not lift a finger to help anyone.

Next question.

oh.. and when Sean Penn went there, the freepers all claimed it was a photo op and that he paraded around doing nothing. Both of which were false. The asshole freepers will believe what they want to bolster their fragile self esteem with lies to make them feel better as to why they have nothing to show for all the years of being selfish republicans.

If he wasn't there physically, his efforts certainly supplied relief. As a hurricane victim (think Florida 2004) I'm as impressed with someone who can mobilize resources as I am with someone passing out bags of ice and flashlights on the side walk. Put your skills where they have the most advantage.

52. heres a suggestion
why dont you go back over to Moores site and read what he said.
He said it VERY clear.......he had a team of his people there. HE NEVER claimed that he was there. DUH! So what is the freaking point?

You'd have a decent arguement if Moore ever actually claimed he was there....but he didnt! He did however claim a lot of other things, if you want to "debate" then do some digging as to whether he actually did any of the things he ACTUALLY claimed! again.......DUH!

Another thing in case you STILL don't "get it" Moore is not the Pretzledent! Who gives a flying fuck if he went there physically?!
And why is it the job of DUers to fact check this garbage anyhow.....do your own damn research, maybe you'll learn a thing or two along the way............like........there are bigger fish to fry! And the foul odor comes from the WH........DUH!

Why are you even on this forum if all you can do is act like a jerk to someone new who obviously hasn't got a handle of how things work in the DU?

I came here to learn, get answers, and participate in decent diaglogue with people who share the same ideal as me. I wonder how many true Dems you have chased off?

Now, I'm too hard headed to run away. I'll drop in once in a while when I want need answers or want to get someones opinion. Let's hope next time people don't act like jerks. Other than that, I feel pretty welcome!

64. Good I'm glad someone welcomed you
now you feel good. And you can move forward with finding out the important stuff like whether Moore was actually in NO.

BTW, who asked anyhow? And why didnt you just give him/it/her the same reason you've got in this thread over and over?
Just curious....why did you feel it so urgent to debate this sort of garbage?

53. Did Michael Moore claim he was in NOLA helping?
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 12:33 PM by Bridget Burke
According to his website, his staff was down there. They're still there, by the way. His staff & contributions given through his website have helped quite a bit. His physical presence would not make much difference.

As opposed to a certain jackass who's burned aviation fuel for numerous photo ops & has done jack shit to help anyone.

What are you trying to prove?

56. Did Moore ever make the claim that he "physically" helped?...
Ask those with whom you're debating to provide the source for the claim that Moore did physically help the victims of Katrina. You've got to turn it back on those who are making a claim, otherwise you'll spend your whole life trying to prove something which may have never happened.

Uh-huh. You sure do ask a lot of loaded questions for a new guy.

Hellooooooooo --- assume the best until proved otherwise?

Jeez Louise, I hope that none of my political neophyte friends ever show up HERE and ask these kinds of questions. They'll just get their arse handed to 'em on a platter. That's really encouraging and helpful to the noobs. NOT. :eyes:

75. As a DU newcomer myself
with a low post count, I'd like to know what specific questions, or types of questions, I should not ask. Are there rules pertaining to this posted somewhere?

76. Ones that appear to be accusatory or critical towards prominent liberals
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 02:40 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
or Dems would certainly raise suspicion, if you are posting threads/posts like this in your very earliest posts.

The basic concept is, you've built up no "cred" in the group, and appear to be trying to stir up trouble. Even if that's not the case, surely it is not difficult to see how that perception can easily arise?

Especially when Bush worshippers of various stripes love to infiltrate and disrupt this board, particularly when there is big trouble facing their tin god, which is pretty much this whole last few months.

So if you come across as starting threads that "stir the pot" in your earliest posts, and then are defensive and angry with those who question you, it won't be well received, whether this response is correct or not.

If we went over to right/Bush leaning sites like fr.com, started accounts, and immediately started posting threads like "Is there any proof that Rush Limbaugh DOESN'T shoot heroin?" within the first 50-100 posts, it would tend to raise eyebrows..."

This is more of a COMMON SENSE rather than a "rules" thing. If it's not fairly obvious, there's probably not much more explanation that can be helpful.

88. What I did when I first came here...
I just posted on threads and when I had a few hundred posts, THEN I felt secure/brave enough to start a thread. In my first thread I posted an article and was SKEWERED by DUers because it was "an old article" and EVERYONE had already read it. :eyes: and they were more than happy to let me know that. It can be BRUTAL here, so grow some VERY THICK SKIN. ;)

For THIS poster (OP). She/he posted, IMCPO, in an accusatory tone. As if Michael Moore said he was in NOLA and she wanted proof. That's how I read it anyway.:hi:

Welcome to DU, BTW!:hi:

78. First of all, did MM claim to BE in MS and physically helping?
He sent emails and posted on his website what was needed by various groups he was in contact with. He posted an update on what had been delivered and that things were still needed, and what thos things were. Brownie (heck of a job guy) still doesn't know what's been delivered, and where. Rural areas have been forgotten.

Michael Moore lent his name and contacts to get the word out more than the people whose actual job it is to know what is going on down there. Michael Moore is and loves common everyday people. Do you want him down there doing photo ops? I don't, I am happy he is lending his name and a hand in any way. It shows what we all know - Liberals have big hearts and help in a pinch.

87. He helped by sending staff, money, organizing, doing what he does well
I don't think his physical body was there. "He" did help very much in organizing, promoting help, financially, contributing his staff, etc. He helped by doing what he does well, rather than totting supplies in 90+ heat and 90+ humidity. He physically helped by what he does well and was/is greatly appreciated by those of us who were physically totting those supplies in the gulf coast or loading stuff elsewhere to be shipped there.
