How much longer can the destruction of the middle class continue for?

In the game of Monopoly, eventually everyone becomes flat broke and there is one winner left. When will we reach this point in the U.S. economy, and what happens then?

4. as long as significant #s of the "middle-class" can pay cable bills...
...and broad band if they have it. And put gas in their cars. But that's pure speculation.

5. Forever...until there is no middle class
Guatemala is the model our would-be masters are striving for. A tiny, tiny hyper-wealthy ruling elite with everyone else just "campesinos" - dirt-poor, ignorant, and devoid of hope and aspirations. Anyone who makes common cause, supports, or even cooperates with B*shit and his tinpot junta is furthering their agenda, whether consciously or through ignorance.

6. Until your country resembles Venezuela before Chavez
In Venezuela, something like 60 percent of all people in that country lived BELOW the poverty line before Chavez' reforms started turning the tide.

7. Look at the history of the Roman Empire
No middle class at all. The very rich, the very poor and slaves. It's a very good model of what's happening today.

And just a reminder to our fundy friends...Rome was christian when she fell.

9. My family came from Czarist Russia
during the crack down after the assassination of Czar Alexander II (during the tyranny of Alexander III).

I was raised with oral histories of the assassination of Alexander II and the craziness of Alexander III and Rasputin, and battles of Bolsheviks versus Menshiviks.

And, I have always been fascinated by the history of Europe Between the Wars (Kafka, "Cabaret", Fall of the Wiemar Republic, Rise of Hitler, immigration of my in-laws to the US).

I see frightening parallels.

11. Do you mean Czar Nicholas?
and his family who were assasinated at Ekaterinberg by the Bolsheviks? Because I was kind of hoping something like that would happen here.

12. Assassination of Alexander II (1882?)
initiated a period of massive oppression by Alexander III.

13. That Is A Trick Question, Sir
It seems the real question is "How long will it take to destroy the middle class, unless the plutocrats are halted in their plundering?"
