of the Golden Girls I believe. I like Betty White. She fed her husband and those cows to the giant Crocodile in that movie with Brigette Fonda. It was a fun movie, and she was funny in it.

Seriously, she's a woman, and that's a good thing. I was worried that Bush would leave the Supreme Court with one woman on it, which would be wrong.

And I was worried that he would appoint some nutcase like Priscilla Owens Brown, which would be a travesty.

And I was worried that he would appoint some other nutcase.

Instead we got a woman who doesn't at first glance appear to be a right-wing freak. And she's be preliminarily vetted enough to pass muster with Reid and Schumer and Boxer, heroes on DU up until five nano-seconds after DU'ers heard something they didn't like.

I'm hoping that as a woman, like Sandra-Day who I couldn't stand after she discraced judges everywhere by helping turn this country into a banana republic, she will at least have the self-interest to peel off of her Republicanism where at least women's issues are concerned, and from there possibly have a more moderate outlook on the rights of other marginalized groups in society. Of course there are plenty of hardcore righty women who think it's god's will that women should be subjugant to men, but I don't think she'd have gotten the endorsement of these Dems if she were that way.

I think that perhaps Bush behaved halfway honorably in meeting with Senate Dems in offering this nomination like he said he did, not that his word means much. But them coming out for her immediately implies that he did.

So let's give Harriet a chance to be heard.

1. Betty White would slice and dice you for breakfast for even
suggesting that someone who hasn't even been a judge be appointed, let alone nominated, for the highest court in the land.

2. Sorry, she's not qualified.

She has never been a judge and now she will be one of the most important judges in our country? She has been picked to forward an agenda.

This statement from her should be the main reason she is not qualified, "GWB is the most brilliant man I have ever met." She is an obvious nitwit.

Cronyism, cronyism, cronyism...

3. See, I don't believe that she said that
unless it was in fun at a roast or something. Unless George Bush was the only person she'd ever met in her life. He's just not that type of guy. He's neither brilliant nor does he effect an air of brilliance, so there would be no basis for such a perception.

If she did say that and mean it then I would indeed have a problem with her right off the bat. And on a more sarcastic note, George Bush can't be that dumb - he got George Bush into the presidency.

I'm just saying let's get past the reflex action against a nominee we don't know anything about and at least find out something about her first. What we know so far:

1) Anybody BushCo nominates will be bad
2) She's not a known right-wing nutcase like Owens-Brown
3) Dems seem to have been consulted and are not immediately against her
4) She's a woman with possibly a better outlook on things than a right wing man

I'm wary, and not all that hopeful, but this is not the time to come out in full-throat opposition.
