Hm, Chief Justice John Roberts. Interesting…

Now, which party controls the Senate again?

3. Agnew was indicted by a Grand Jury and forced to resign
before a trial. If memory serves, he pleaded guilty or would have faced a trial, not a trial in the Senate.

Impeachment is a Congressional indictment which results in trial by the Senate. I don't think a sitting VP is safe from civil prosecution. Agnew certainly wasn't.

If Fitz has the goods and can take it to court, we don't need the senate to fire Cheney.

5. Agnew pleaded "Nolo contendre"
which means something like, "I'm guilty as sin but I don't want to come out and plead guilty so here's my wishy-washing, deal-cutting, legalese alternative."

Betch that's what DeLay pleads too.

12. The Pres isn't safe from
civil prosecution either -- remember the Paula Jones case? The Repubs may come to regret that precedent. :evilgrin:

4. This doesn't say that the Prez can't be indicted and tried by a court
It simply says, only the Senate can impeach -- which means remove from office -- the President.

You're parsing meaning that isn't here. Do you seriously think the Chief Executive could kill his wife in cold blood and he couldn't be indicted for murder by the State in which it happened?

Actually Aaron Burr was indicted in 1804 by two states for the duel that killed Alexander Hamilton. So, see, there's even precedent.

Geez.
