"Something stinks in America" (The Observer)
http://observer.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,6903,1582977,00.html

"American conservatism that has shaped American and British politics for 20 years has been holed below the waterline. It will take a lot more to sink it, but DeLay's indictment is symptomatic of a conservative over-reach and endemic corruption that will trigger, at the very least, a retreat and maybe even more. One-Nation Tories and honest-to-God Labour politicians can take some succour; the right-wing wind that has blown across the Atlantic for nearly a generation is about to ease. Hypocrisies have been exposed. The discourse in British politics is set to change."

6. Don't be sad, the truth will set us free!
It is sad that they have gotten away with so much for so long. It finally feels like there is real hope for it to end. The big boys may soon have mug shots and hand cuffs on.

That will be the only way for the world to know "WE the People" do not approve of their BULLSHIT!

7. Oh, yessss! And we will get some reputation back if it is shown that they
have been stealing elections, are frauds through and through and can be handcuffed and led away for a long stay. If the admin are only "unindicted co-conspirators" as sitting Pres and VPres, I would be saddened even more for all the people they have murdered around the world and here at home. I hate these bastards. Thanks for listening.

15. The REAL outrage is the lack of US outrage
Where the phluk is NYT? Come to think of it, even the Wall Street churnal would attack official corruption with sledge.
The only paper coming close with some moral outrage is Wash.Post.

The lack of stories means what? we have not been trained how to react? the story is boring? There is football on? the Sox made the playoffs?

goddammit. what has happened to my country?

3. Not shocked the movements
have been married at the hip, so yes what happens to delay will impact 10 downing, not the NYT would publish this... even if they should, for when the PM falls, it will affect American Conservatism as well

As a leading Republican prepares to face corruption charges, the fallout will be felt as far afield as Westminster

9. Love the end:
"But DeLay's indictment breaks back the dam. US politics moves in cycles. Once it was Republicans who were going to clean up corrupt Democrat Washington; now Democrats can champion the same cause. Nor can the media afford to be on the side of the Old Corruption; it's bad for business. The wheel is turning, an important moment both sides of the Atlantic.

Here's hoping it really does break the dam. There would be true reason to celebrate then.

12. The right has apparatuses to kill progress, exposing lies not enough, the
changes will require some pushes and probably new activism is gonna be called for. Like the so-called greatest generation was called upon, the baby boomers and their descendants are being called upon to get out of their over all complacency and move things: run for office, contrbute money to political movements, support alternatives (media, food production systems) with their money as never before.

I worry that this British newspaper may not have accounted well enough for how dysfunctional our system here in the USA has become.

13. Good description of Bugman Delay....
"If DeLay were another Republican politician or even a typical majority leader of the House, the political world could shrug its shoulders. Somebody got caught, but little will change. But DeLay is very different. He is the Republican paymaster, one of the authors of the K Street Project and the driving force behind a vicious, organised demonisation and attempted marginalisation of Democrats that for sheer, unabashed political animus is unlike anything else witnessed in an advanced democracy. Politicians fight their political foes by fair means or foul, but trying to exterminate them is new territory."
