If you haven't seen Lord of War, don't recommend you to see it if you are
feeling depressed, helpless, hopeless, outraged, angry, disappointed, giving up, or just exhausted...

And, BTW, Sixties: Years that Shaped in PBS seemed good...

2. Amnesty International is emailing members to go see it.
I don't go to movies, so I'm not going to see it, but I have never been sent something like that before.

3. saw "the iceman cometh" TWICE in one day in one of the most depressed
periods in my life. actually felt better afterwards, feeling that no matter how lousy my life looked at that moment, it was wayyyy better than what I was seeing onscreen

4. I don't want to go through this again

"Early on, in the vietnam war, americans accepted the premise of the war as being part of a greater war on communism". Substitute communism with terrorism and you got the same old shit. Really. I don't want to relive this. It seems almost inevitable at this point. I so hope I'm wrong.

Edit: typo

5. Yes. I've been saying this for so long now..
I got told today from a family member (not blood related): 'This is nothing like Vietnam - I'm a product of the 60s so I should know!'

That was one sentence after a whole spiel about how bad communism was, and how bad terrorism is now. Then he went on about how great America is, how blind patriotism is beneficial, and how he was older and wiser these days and just an angsty kid in the 60s. After all this you'd think he was a hardcore repuke, but he's actually a democrat and did not vote for bush either time.

:wtf:

Sometimes days I just feel like giving up on people. Today is definitely one of those.

7. I'm not here to bash America
But it's getting more and more difficult to not draw parallels between the present and the past.

8. Parallells are not very useful, IMO. The present is FAR WORSE.
It isn't just the war. It is everything that is making that war happen. But it is much much more than that. There is the economic situation and the oil crisis and the environmental crisis. History is moving much more relentlessly and far faster. In the 'good old days' we actually thought the future could be better -- thought we could actually AVOID where we are now, for example. We didn't succeed at that. I'm in the habit of saying we vastly underestimated the opposition.

9. You know, you're right.
It's like we're being led by not only fascists, but INEPT fascists who are going to bring the whole thing down on all of us.

11. Do you know what you are fighting for?
And do you know who your enemy really is?

That is always more than half the battle, I'm told.
