Air America leaving Sacramento
Weird. But we will get Thom Hartman instead of Franken and Schultz instead of Randi. But no more morning sedition at 9am.

1. I would not miss Franken, but I would miss Morning Sedition.
This must be related to their latest move of syndicating certain programs. I think that is how they got Thom Hartmann on the network at the same time as Franken.
Not sure about the Randi Rhodes/Ed Schultz thing.

by her about her good looks.

Oh, well, nobody is going to please everyone.

We are all certainly entitled to our own opinions. :hi:

9. LINK LINK LINK...
http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=552054&Board=newstalk

A regular on the Sacramento board, who seems to have some connections locally, posted of an impending change in the market. Since the post, I've done some asking around, and it seems like it's gonna happen.

The move would have current Entercom standards KCTC/1320 flipping to liberal talk in early November (or sooner), taking the Air America programming schedule from current affiliate KSAC/1240 "Talk City". Looking at the current Talk City website, it promises new programming in October, and has reduced the Air America programming in its schedule to just a simple block with no host names.

Listeners in the market report that 1240 is promoting the addition of Democracy/WYD/Jones Radio's Stephanie Miller in morning drive, AAR Syndication's Thom Hartmann in the early midday slot, and P1/Jones' Ed Schultz from noon-3 PM PT. It would appear possible that current 4-6 PM local host Christine Craft (who may have just found this message board :) could move to a 3 PM start...though that's just a guess on my part. It'd probably also mean a time slot improvement for local brokered host Mary Jane Popp, whose "Popp-Off" now airs at 7 PM on 1240.

This would all mean that KCTC/1320 would likely play the majority of the AAR schedule live, if not all of it...since the Jones Radio product is debuting on 1240 next week.

There have been two competitive liberal talk situations before, though not long-term. Clear Channel FM libtalker WXXM/92.1 in the Madison, WI market competed against local incumbent WTDY/1670, which really isn't a full-time liberal talker, but did air Jones' Ed Schultz until WXXM grabbed the show. And here in my hometown of Akron, there was a brief overlap between WJMP/1520 Kent's carriage of Air America, and liberal talk on former sports outlet now-WARF/1350 Akron. (The sports format, by the way, landed on 1520.)

It'll be interesting to see how long both KSAC/1240 and KCTC/1320 stay in the format, and how they'll do in the ratings. 1320's definitely the better stick, by far, but 1240 is incumbent in the format and has a well-known local host (the aforementioned Ms. Craft, a market veteran) in afternoon drive. It's picked up at least some ratings...in one 12-plus book, it bested long-time Salem conservative talker KTKZ/1380, not that it's difficult to beat a Salem conservative talk station in the ratings. ;)

The other thing here is something even 1240's former program director will tell you...Entercom is, obviously, a much more polished and professional operation, and has resources KSAC owner Paula Nelson-Redfield could only dream of having. We'll see.

-OA

6. Thom Hartmann is Air America...
they are trying to get West Coast shows on the West Coast, but it's all messed up here (Seattle.) Thom Hartmann at 9:00 a.m., which is great, then Ed Schultz (he syndicates separately and I'm sure he's got it written in to the contract that he must be live), then Al Franken, tape delayed 6 hours instead of Randi, who now starts at 6:00, also tape delayed 6 hours. It's not working for me. They should have it Hartmann, Schultz, Randi, Malloy, then Al Franken later at night if they're going to delay him anyway. He is too low key for 3:00 p.m. I always switch now.

39. Ed Schultz is borrrring
Why he has to be on live when all he seems to talk about is drinking beer and shooting deer, I'll never know. The callers have to bring issues up to him and he seems to show no interest in pursuing stories the way Randi does.

I saw the AM 1090 staffers at the peace rally in Seattle last Saturday holding up those stupid "Vote 1090" campaign signs.

One of them tried to give me an AM1090 Key Ring. She was very nice, but I told her, " No thank you, but please tell your Program Director to put Randi back on at drive time" Her reaction was a very shy nod. I don't think I was the only one her shared that sentiment with her.

More progressives for Sacramento radio is great news!

... BTW, I hope they're not saying that Christine Craft is a liberal! She spewed lots of pro-war BS on KGO, as a fill-in host.
I would hope her views have changed, but I'll never forget all her "Why do you hate 'murka?" crap that she threw out at other
hosts like Bernie Ward. Craft also condemned Jessica Lynch for telling the truth.

44. She turned some time ago and has been successful organizing protests and
letter writing campaigns (to representatives). True, she's a mix of liberal (mostly) and conservative (some) views. But, hey, so am I and so are many people who are against the Bush admin. I was against the war BEFORE it started but we must take our allies where we can find them (excepting race-baiters and homophobes which she most definitely is not).

You will love her "voice monkey" - Jim Ward aka the Conspiracy Guy also. He does a lot of impressions. She is a comedian.

It is a lot of fun.

I know some people don't like Schultz (and he has ticked me off once or twice) but most of the time he is pretty good.

edit to add a link to Stephanie's web site where you can listen to her show from today, etc. if you would want to check it out.

*shrugs* He is humorous at times and I've spent more time chuckling at him than anyone else save Malloy. Malloy is freaking funny. Schultz gets pretty good interviews with all the prominent Dems... which goes to show he probably is a plant...

(Rhodes & Malloy).

What a way to dilute the liberal air waves...Now all you need is Alan Colmes.

According to postings on Radio-Info, it appears that another station, KCTC (1320) will take over as the local Air America affiliate from KSAC (1240). The website for KSAC (aka Talk City) claims that changes are coming to the station in October. On-air promos claim that Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann and Ed Schultz will be added to the lineup. Supposedly, the contract between KSAC and Air America was not renewed.
