Roy Blunt: Clean as shit
just as you'd expect a Republican to be.

:eyes:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/20...

In Missouri, the Blunt organization is a family affair. Son Matt, 34, is governor, and son Andrew, 29, is a top state-government lobbyist whose client list is studded with major donors to his father.

As majority whip, Blunt, even more than DeLay before him, has created a formal alliance with K Street lobbyists, empowering corporate representatives and trade association executives to assist the House leadership in counting votes and negotiating amendments to bring holdouts into the fold.

Last year, when the House leadership faced apparently insurmountable odds in passing legislation eliminating a $50 billion export tax break, the lobbying community stepped in to add billions of new tax breaks for major corporations with facilities in nearly every district -- General Electric, Boeing, Caterpillar, United Technologies, Honeywell and Emerson. The support built up majority backing for the measure.

Blunt's best-known special-interest intervention was a 2003 late-night attempt -- unsuccessful, as it turned out -- to add an amendment sought by Philip Morris. Blunt's son then was a lobbyist for Philip Morris in Missouri; Blunt himself was dating a Philip Morris lobbyist whom he later married, and he had received more than $150,000 in contributions from the company and subsidiaries.

7. Blunt is a filthy corpofascist...
...pig. Par for the course for today's GOP. I'm from Missouri. I hate the Blunts, and I loathe anyone with a Blunt sticker on their car or a Blunt sign in their yard. I KNOW without a shred of doubt that the person with said sticker or sign is a backwards ass knuckle-dragging homophobic thickskulled Faux news watching greedy selfish prick.

But wait, theres more. First, some context. Matt Blunt is son of Roy Blunt, current House Majority Whip, whose job, as George Bush likes to say, is to count the votes, i.e. he is the guy who whips up formal support for party-backed measures and legislation. Blunt Sr. is also one of George Bushs close buddies, and Bush was in Missouri several times during the campaign drumming up support for Matt Blunts governors race and other GOP candidates. Towards the end, Bush just started referring to Matt, even before the election, as Governor Blunt.

Maybe it was just a kind of visualize it and it will happen confidence ploy. Or maybe he knew something we dont about Blunts solid hand on the electioneering machine. Remember, Matt Blunt was, all this time, the acting state official on elections. Maybe there was a reason they didnt spend as much money as the opposition, Claire McCaskill, the current State Auditor. Is it possible there were other, more secretive reasons to give them confidence in the elections outcome?

In the election results certified on Monday by Blunt, Bush won Missouri with 53.3% of votes. Roy Blunt regained his congressional seat with 70.4%. Matt Blunt himself did much worse, barely taking his opponent by a margin of 50.8% to McCaskills 47.9%.

The apparent handiness of that win is belied by closer scrutiny of Missouri voting trends. In a full 80% of Missouri s counties, both urban and rural, Matt Blunt underperformed George W. Bush, often by discouraging margins. For example, in Camden County , with 68% turnout, Bush garnered 67%, Blunt only 61%, of the vote. The pattern recurs in county after county.

11. Reminds me of a Dorothy Parker quote
"She was a pure as the driven mud."

I don't recall who was the target of DP's bile on that occasion, but it's an epigram that sure comes in handy these days.
