As you would expect of an elderly couple at the end of a long pilgrimage to the site of their child's death, the parents of Jean Charles de Menezes looked drained and shattered as they stood outside Stockwell Tube station yesterday.
Matozinhos Otone Da Silva seemed small and shrivelled inside a blue suit while his wife Maria Otone de Menezes gazed with a mix of awe and astonishment at the crush of press photographers, reporters and spectators watching their every move.
With her only surviving child, Giovani, holding her up, she gazed at the small shrine of flowers and messages of sympathy that has been set up at the entrance to the south London station.
It suddenly became all too much for Mrs de Menezes, 60, who wailed and gesticulated as she turned to the crowd and shouted at them through her tears.
