A direct request to Congressman John Conyers from B Robert Franza MD

Good evening Congressman Conyers,

I have posted the following at DU and hope you will discuss with your colleagues and family and consider taking the proposed action:

"The one Democratic leader who requires no spin, and who likely never will, is Congressman Conyers.

The Nation needs for him to step forward and assume leadership.

So, everyone, how about a concerted effort to convince Congressman Conyers to declare that if Bush and Cheney are not either forced to resign or are impeached before Nov 2006, then after he leads the Democrats to capturing the majority in both the House and the Senate in 2006 - based on a campaign laser focused on the vast criminality of Bush administration and the Republican 109th Congress -- he will lead the effort to impeach them in the House and assist his colleagues in the Senate to convict both of them.

He will urge his colleagues in the 110th US Congress, to elect him Speaker of the House of Representatives, so he can lead the impeachment effort.

We need action and we need it now.

Congressman Conyers is the person who can rally the Nation.

I hope everyone does all they can to convince Congressman Conyers to assume his rightful and much deserved place at the helm.

... in 2007. The Congress rids the Nation of Bush and Cheney, by impeachment in the House and conviction in the Senate. And, then, Congressman Conyers becomes President.

Launching the effort now might just lead to overwhelming pressure on Bush and Cheney to resign -- something any self-serving Republican might be motivated, big time, to push specifically because of the increased likelihood that if the Dems take control of the House and the Senate in the 2006 Congressional elections, they will most definitely impeach and convict Bush and Cheney as soon as procedurally possible in 2007 and the Democratic Speaker of the House will become President.

I want Congressman Conyers to lead the Nation toward that goal and urge everyone here to support him in doing so.

His statements regarding his meeting with Cindy Sheehan give me hope that he will see the value in supporting Congressman Conyers in this endeavor.

I hope Elizabeth Edwards and Chris Heinz and others whom read this thread will speak with their families and consider calling Congressman Conyers and offering their support.

I would hope Vice President Gore and Gen Clark would do the same.

If we want to save America, these folk, joining arm-in-arm with Congressman Conyers, can make it happen.

Time for everyone to place their personal objectives in the drawer and bring their total commitment to saving the Republic up front and center.

Congressman Conyers is the statesman who can steer the Republic from its impending collision with the treacherous crags of tyranny and societal chaos.

Former Republican Education Secretary, Bill Bennett stated on his radio program yesterday that, "if you wanted to reduce crime, you could - if that were your sole purpose - abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."

I have written a letter to the president of the Salem Radio Network, the network that carries Bennett's program, requesting that they suspend this program and address the problem of stereotyping and profiling that has been expressed on their programming.

The text of my letter follows:

Dear Mr. Anderson:

We were shocked and outraged to learn that, on your radio network yesterday, Bill Bennett stated on his radio program, Bill Bennett's Morning in America, "I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime you could - if that were your sole purpose - you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down." This statement was made in response to a caller's suggestion linking abortions to the solvency of the Social Security program.

It is difficult for us to understand how an individual granted a show on your network could utter such a statement in 21st century America. While we all support First Amendment Rights, we simply cannot countenance statements and shows that are replete with racism, stereotyping, and profiling. Mr. Bennett's statement is insulting to all of us and has no place on the nation's public air waves. The fact that Mr. Bennett later acknowledged that such abortions would be "morally reprehensible," but added again that if it was done "the crime rate would go down," is equally outrageous.

We ask that you immediately suspend this radio program. We also ask to meet with the executives of your network to understand how you could have permitted an individual with such views to broadcast such a program on your network, and learn what you intend to do to respond to this problem. We are planning to convey our views to your commercial sponsors as well and hereby request a list of all sponsors of the show within the last year.
