Edited on Tue Oct-07-03 09:13 PM by TruthIsAll
The last three CA elections. Ignoring third party candidates, the Dems got 57.37%, the Repukes 42.63%.

How the hell can Davis NOT get over 50%?

8. Right wing media
You don't need fixed voting machines when you own the media.

2. I voted this morning against the recall.
Yet, all day long all the spin is that Arnold is going to be Governor and this from many Democratic pundits as well. Arnold and the whole circus act as if the election is in the bag. What do they know that we don't?

4. this is not a presidential election
While it is still possible Davis might yet win (despite Drudge exit poll numbers and the way most of the politicians on tv tonight are talking like it is over before the polls have closed)the fact remains that Davis is a very unpopular incumbent. Not all of this was of his own doing. He should have more agressively tried to nationalize this election by saying that the Bush economy is the reason why 48/50 states are running huge deficits. To win, a governor with a 26% approval rating had to really turn around alot of people--including Democrats--and have a huge turnout and votes from traditional democratic groups like unions, latinos, African-Americans, women, ect.
If Arnold wins the female vote, I don't know what to think.

17. Davis should have nationalized it
Considering that California is about 1/6th the national economy, and that our share of the national debt this year is about $80 billion, I don't know why Davis didn't forcefully make the argument that the Bush recession was to blame here.

6. Temporary insanity...
is the best explanation I can find. Arnie's "Throw them all out!" message resonated with most Repubs and apparently with enough Dems who failed to see the bigger picture -- all they know is that Davis seems cold and too "politician-y", and our economy sucks (Duh!). Bet you anything this is what happened. Many Dems voted for the recall, and many new or infrequent voters came in and voted Arnie because they think it's cool.

If this is a huge margin of victory (and really, we have no idea yet, polls aren't even closed!), it's not voter fraud. Except the huge fraud perpetrated by the Recall Campaign and that scum Darrell Issa.

Those Dems are going to wake up soon and think "Oh shit -- what have we done?" They are going to feel mighty stupid.

12. "Temporary Insanity"
Instead of blaming the recall results on temporary insanity,
or a right wing conspiracy, or the media, or whatever, doesn't
it make more sense to really analyze why Gray Davis is
apparently so hopelessly unpopular? Is anyone going to win
future elections by concluding that the electorate has lost
its mind?

9. sorry....
but past performance cannot be used to gauge future outcomes... or whatever that disclaimer on stock broker ads is....

yes, we have more Dems in the state. But unfortunately, Davis really *IS* unpopular. A lot of it's totally unfair, but it's the reality.

And never underestimate the power of large groups of people to fuck themselves over just for kicks.

11. Wrong -
He's following the course we asked him to. It's not his fault things like the energy companies charging outlandish rates and repugnent smear campaigns had hit him hard.

He's doing the job we hired him for. The whole concept of the recall is unfair.

He's for most of the LIBERAL issues, but he is king while WE are "leftist commies".The repuke party are nothing but lying, sneaky, thieving, greedy warmongering, power grabbing assholes. I hate them all.:argh:

I forgot to put in that repukes are all HYPOCRITES,too!!!

I don't live in California. WHY is Gray Davis so unpopular?

On TV he's a pretty depressing image. He strikes me the epitome of what people hate in politicians -- he's best known for raising campaign funds, trashing opponents, and sucking up to special interests. Am I wrong?

Arnold is a celebrity, but I find it hard to believe he'd win if people didn't detest Davis.
