4. You aren't allowed to disagree so why would anyone be talkative
the mods are cracking down on disagreement, even if the question is asked.

2. Isn't it a tad early
to be making excuses for losing? At least wait until the polls close to trot out the hankies and tinfoil.

3. Good point***However, the outcome is not ultimately even relevant.
It has to do with (in my opinion) with electronic voting. Regardless of the outcome, more evidence is revealing how electronic voting lacks the safeguards to constitute a fair voting procedure.

5. all the $$ they've spent so far plus the Enron rebate
to the tune of 9b that they stand to keep... why wouldn't they go the bit extra and rig the election?

20. nope
not at all

it was fixed so good this time, to save him from being redfaced once again.

Paul Graham, executive producer of The Comeback, with the help of film editor Geoff Bennett, didnt include in the films sound track the subsequent eruption that greeted the announcement of the 1980 Olympia winner. In the words of an eyewitness, The audience was furious, throwing things, swearing. A great chorus of Rigged, rigged, rigged flared up. Theres never been anything like it in any bodybuilding contest ever. Everyone in the place was booing Arnold, shouting bullshit, and brawling in disgust. Arnold was enraged and went red in the face. (Ibid.; p. 184.)
34. Seething with anger, Arnold stormed out of the Sydney Opera House with a group of reporters in hot pursuit. Almost running toward the exit, he avoided answering their questions, tossing his head in a combination of anger and disdain. Close to the exit, he suddenly realized that Maria, far from being by his side, was talking to some reporters behind him. According to Helmut Cerncic, at the top of his voice Arnold Screamed, You stupid bitch, Im waiting for you. Come here. Witnessing the scene, Helmut, who had known Arnold since he was a teenage misfit all those years ago in the Athletic Union, thought to himself, This boy from Austria, who never had a penny, couldnt speak English, now knows someone from the Kennedy family and speaks to her like that. It was amazing.

6. Hell, they didn't have to rig this election
It looks very likely that the recall will pass. That means that more people have to vote for Bustamante than Arnold, which doesn't seem liekly to me.

The problem is, as AP mentioned, that Gray Davis didn't get a chance here. When you break it down, a vote against the recall is a vote for Davis. So even though 47% may be voting for Davis, Arnold could win with 30%. Its a fucking joke.

And they have been spreading underserved blame and lies about him.

Meanwhile, there are millions of people who are willing to DIE for Arnold just because he was in a movie they liked. So, hell yes they are going to vote for him. They are stupid and lack the ability to thing things through, but there are many of them.

But that is democracy repug-style! Steal the election. Take the real governor's job. Replace the real one with an idiot and a criminal. It's all so 2000 Presidental electionish.

14. Thats my problem with this
It lacks origionality. The whole "reject the will of the people, install a CEO-friendly, unqualified idiot" has just been done to death by the Republicans.
For their sequel in 2004, lets hope they get some origionality to at least make it partly intersting.

7. Aren't there only a few precints with
touch screens? If that's true, then how can you blame the machines for the whole state voting Arnie, assuming of course they're voting Arnie.

9. Remember Florida
It's not just touch screens... It's people not being on the rolls. It's polling spots that don't exist... It's "provisional ballots" being handed out like candy once you do find a polling spot.

10. No, here are the actual counties that are electronic.
From Lynn Landes: The British and Republicans are Counting our Votes

<< Here is the breakdown. On a geographical basis, British-based Sequoia takes the lead in the vote count in California counties. Twenty-one counties use Sequoia voting technology, 15 counties use ES&S, 14 - Diebold, 6 - DMF Associates, and 2 counties use PollStar. On the basis of registered voters, ES&S takes the lead with 7,305,680 voters, Sequoia - 3,682,051, Diebold - 2,412,971, PollStar - 1,308,789, and DMF Associates - 593,978. >>

12. Same system as Florida, hanging chads 'n' all
For me, if Arnold wins it's because the people want him to win.

Or maybe people are so desperate to get out of a bad situation which they think Davis put them in yet Davis spoke very little of in his "defense".

17. this is only a glimpse of things to come
If you think rigged elections are the only thing in store you are sorely mistaken. things are about to get very very scary for america and rigged elections is only a way to make sure it happens. things are being set in place by people like bush.

18. Last night, Rev Jesee Jackson said...
...that there was a plan in place to challenge the election because of wholesale voter disenfranchisement. He argued how there were 1/3 less poll locations in LA certainly means minority voters would be disenfranchised.

When asked if he would persue the challenge if Gov Davis won the recall vote, he admitted 'No.'

So it's an unfair election when you lose, and a fair election if you win. Laughable.

I see the same thing around DU. The fact that you lose doesn't mean that the fix is on. By arguing that, people look as foolish as Jackson did, and only succeed in marginalizing themselves.

Get to work on winning, not shadow boxing

21. You miss the fact we are in agreement. Its not about who wins, its about
the highly evident flaws with electronic voting.

You're right, this poll addresses the issue of electronic voting and the potential for fraudulent results, however it has nothing to do with the overall winner, because if you believe that electronic voting can be manipulated, then you would agree that the results now are essentially invalid. Even if Gray Davis had won so to speak (and yes I would have liked that because I believe he is the rightful governor who legitimately won his election)

From all that is being learned and discovered from the various studies performed on the machines, electronic voting is an insecure form of voting that leaves no trail in which to audit, not to mention is susceptible to manipulation that cannot be visibly identified, so,in effect, we will never really know who the winner truly is at this point.

19. Fuming Californian will only add one thing to this
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 06:48 PM by Tinoire
because I am royally pissed- this seems like 2000 all over again.

A lot of people the Dems were counting on such as Labor were not energized to vote because Bustamante is not everyone's cup of tea and the DLC is royally pissing off a lot of people out here who should have voted Dem but for whatever reason were not inclined to (some even voted for ARNOLD!)

That said...

No matter how ritzy the neigbourhood, many of us vote in private homes, garages, schools... I voted at 7:55 PM on a paper ballot and there were still PLENTY of people at the polling places I passed on the way to and from the polling place... I got home at 8:02 PM only to hear that Arnold won... This made no sense to me... There's NO way, they counted all those paper ballots! No way!

I don't know how many votes in CA are taken electronically vs on paper- but this just stunk.
