this is from tsuki & ragin acadian - IN DC!
we boarded the peace train in B'ham, yesterday afternoon at 2:00. The Louisiana activists network was there, some members missing due to Katrina.

activists from Gulf Coast, Louisiana, and Texas were aboard, even as Hurricane Rita was bearing down on Gulf Coast.

We met Ward, he spent first week in August at Camp Casey - he told us
his experiences there.

tsuki mentioned DU and write in campaign to the Sheriffs office, that first week. Ward was appreciative, and promised to check into DU. Met Jim, a poet, and Veteran for Peace from Washington State, he brought a poets muslin scroll, made by his wife - it had muslin squares of cloth that you could pen your thoughts on and attach to the existing scroll.

Met a libertarian along for the march, and while talking to him, we were greeted in Charlotteville, VA by peace activists who brought us food - greatly appreciated. The local media filmed the stop.

In DC, we had a lively cab ride, with a sympathetic driver. He may show up at the march tomorrow.

So here we are, we'll try to check in over the next few days, and will post pictures when we get back on Mon/Tues.

1. Welcome to DC, and it's cab drivers.
DC cabs operate on a zone system. They get paid on the distance travelled, not on the time taken. So, if they get you there fast, they can get another fare, and thus increase their effective hourly income.

Most exciting cab ride I ever had was one where the DC cabbie asked "mind if I get you there fast?" I said "Fine by me. It's your cab."

I swear that lady could teach NASCAR a thing or three! She did everything one can imagine for such a trip, except for going up on the side walks.
