1. Why are they going north?
The storm will track north. People should be heading west.

7. That's just plain dumb

So, is everybody crowded on I-45 going north? That's just plain dumb. Nothing but all-day traffic jams.

Me, personally, I hate traffic jams. I would take one of the alternate routes out of town. Here's a map, showing routes going in all directions out of town:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=&city=houston&state=tx&zipcode=

But I assume all roads besides I-45 are jam-packed with cars. If anything, I'd head a bit south, then cut west. Sure quicker than going straight north.

Heck, I'd head up Hwy 6 toward Waco. Is there any of Koresh's compound still left?

3. Someone needs to get people out by airlift or bus NOW
The single car thing is out of control with 100-mile back-ups and folks out of gas. Someone needs to start airlifting people off those roads or at the very least create bus lanes to transport multiples of people. They can come back for the cars later--hairy as that thought may be.
Also--west is the direction to go, not north! Even if the winds are less significant than people had thought they were going to be, the flooding is going to be a major issue.

6. bwahahahahahaha
now they're reporting on MSNBC how there are infectious disease labs in the path of the storm...and a nuclear plant. Lots of resmugs being interviewed saying how "safe" these structures are...hmmm...think they said that about the Superdome, the Titanic...
