Starbucks cups with gay quote pulled
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-gaycup21.html

WACO, Texas -- A dining contractor has removed coffee cups with a gay author's quote from a Starbucks at Baylor University, saying it was inappropriate for the Baptist school.

Aramark, which oversees the coffee outlet, pulled the cups this month from the campus store after consulting with Starbucks and Baylor.

''I think they were trying to be sensitive,'' Baylor spokesman Larry Brumley said. ''Obviously, Baylor is a Baptist-affiliated institution, and Baptists as a denomination have been pretty outspoken on the record about the denomination's views about the homosexual lifestyle.''

1. If the United States needed an enema..........
Texas is where you'd stick the tube. Bigoted fucking assholes. They wouldn't have a problem if there was some mythical religious bullshit on the cups though. :grr:

5. Lovely generalization about all the great people on DU and others who
live in Texas. Bigotry is lumping a group of people together based on what? Religion, race, color, ethnicity, regions where they live.

7. Fit California and Wisconsin with a pus tube first, please...
...the former gave us Nixon & Reagan, respectively, and the latter brought us the joys of Senator Joseph McCarthy and all that he was able to accomplish...

:sarcasm:

Your regional bigotry is disgusting.

3. Gather ye gay rosebuds while ye may
Armistead Maupin's quote reads:

''My only regret about being gay is that I repressed it for so long. I surrendered my youth to the people I feared when I could have been out there loving someone. Don't make that mistake yourself. Life's too damn short.''

Yes, let's not coffee drinkers think about enjoying life while they can. Suffer painfully instead, so you can go happily to your final reward (tm).

8. I think you hit the nail on the head there. It's not the "gay" bit...
...that bothered them so much, but the line about
"Surrendered my youth to people I feared"
must have really touched a nerve.

If young people ever quit doing that,
the "fundamentalist" wing of American Christianity
would disappear within a generation.
