Freeper Wisdom: A woman's place is in the home
The NY Times did an article on Ivy League women who plan to mommy-track. Here's the Freepish reaction.

No matter how hard they try to spin it, you just cannot fight the Laws of Nature.

The female of the species is biologically destined to birth and rear children; all the liberal politics, feminist role-modification garbage, etc. cannot alter that simple fact.

An education is not wasted on a woman who never works outside of the home. It helps her to be a better mother and wife and it also helps her understand and appreciate life in a deeper and more meaningful way, depending on the nature and quality of the education, of course.

Most probably do feel like me, maybe even tending toward wanting to not work at all," said Ms. Flynn, who plans to work part time after having children, though she is torn because she has worked so hard in school.

"Men really aren't put in that position," she said."

She and her girl friends have the option of working full time, part time, or staying home and eating bon bons and watching Oprah, and she resents men for her being put in such an awkward position. Women!

No role in society is as important as that of Mother! Mothers rule and no one knows that as clearly as a father.

Men really have no option, but the option given by God on leaving the Garden of Eden --- men are cursed to work in the dust to feed their family until they return to the dust.

Kind of pointless to go against that curse, really.

5. Eh....
Please. Biological destiny and whatnot.

No kids for me, not my style. I want to retire early, as does my partner (heterosexual, btw) - can't afford to do both.

And a major benefit of my education is that I am smart enough to be able to laugh at you and your ridiculous notions of how the world works.

Fuck you and your sexist stereotypes, freepers.

So well said :toast:

I like to consider myself an enlightened male. When I get married, if my wife wants to be the breadwinner, I'll be happy to let her pursue a career. I wouldn't be insecure enough to feel threatened by a successful woman. Women are men's equal. Different, but equal.

31. I really wonder what he means by this:
"...understand and appreciate life in a deeper and more meaningful way..."

I'd be willing to bet he means something like 'recognize her husbands God-given supremacy and bow to his superior wisdom.' What a bunch of asshats...

No role in society is as important as that of Mother! Mothers rule and no one knows that as clearly as a father

So let me get this straight: if they're all for a mommy in the home, wouldn't two mommies be, like...double good? No?

24. "Ann Coulter" - nuff said. But I'll add more:
This thread at free republic is probably in response to an article in the NYTimes that found many women at Yale say they will give up their careers, or at least take a few years off, when they have kids.

It's not like this is some kind of big trend. Women have been doing this all along. These women will probably marry men who have jobs that will allow them to easily make the choice to stay at home if that's what they want to do.

The thing is, though, many of these young women expect they'll be able to do meaningful part-time work and/or return to the work force in a decent position later in life because of their academic credentials. As a result, I doubt that this trend will really end up the way the freepers think it will. I predict it will have the opposite affect - if the workplace isn't open to these women when THEY want to be involved in it, I am quite sure they will use their 19th amendment rights and every other tool in their disposal to force the issue.

to their husbands and they have to actually go out and work to support their family....

which is why I'm working on my masters. Ironically, I'm taking a year off to care for my infant, but I start back in January. And my main motivation (aside from the fact that I am enjoying being in school) is so that I would be able to support myself and my family, should it come down to just me and my son.

It just seems practical and makes sense, to me....because you never know what's coming down the pike....

Besides, kids need to know you are more than just a mom and that you are important to many, many people. A christian mother of two told me that, once.

PS-If these freepers think it's CHRISTIAN to keep a woman at home and only at home, they need to read their bible. Deborah in the OT was a judge. And this from Proverbs 31:

16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.

Sounds like a businesswoman and altruist/philanthropist to me.....

26. then their asses better be getting pay raises, so he can afford
to provide for the family in an acceptable manner as that woman stays in the home. i am knowing a hell of a lot of freepers just barely making it on two incomes. how they plan on taking care of their family on one income, is a mystery yet to be told

i on the other hand can stay home and take care of family and home cause my non freeper hubby has a large enough income and it is what i do best and we are all happy with what we have created...... all are provided for

27. ummm...then wouldn't it follow logically that MEN were meant
to provide fully for their wives and families?? How many of these nut jobs "over there" need the little woman out working in order to make ends meet? How many cannot on their own provide decently for their familes. In a word, times have changed... the dumb buckos!!! I think all their wives should quit work and nag them all day with "show me the money".

"No matter how hard they try to spin it, you just cannot fight the Laws of Nature.

The female of the species is biologically destined to birth and rear children; all the liberal politics, feminist role-modification garbage, etc. cannot alter that simple fact."

Except if she is surgically sterilized or her partner is. Duh! My husband has a vasectomy so I guess that erases my "destiny" and alters that "simple fact". Mother Nature defeated in just 15 minutes in a urologist's office.

Once when my husband told a co-worker's teenage son that he was snipped he was asked, "Does your wife know?" as if it was unthinkable that I would want this too. People are so stupid. :eyes:
