6. Carlos...
...you had respect to lose? I was under the impression that you've never thought highly of Moore...

That said, who knows, his statements haven't been an endorsement of Clark, but we'll see if he touts him. I don't suppose he could be any worse than Rob Lowe was in his boosting of Arnold the Gropinator.

I don't think that's very fair. Moore is as liberal as they get in this country. If he likes Clark, don't you think you should probably give the General a chance? His positions on the issues are pretty liberal.

It could be a thread about how seatbelts save lives and he'll be there saying Nader is evil incarnate, always was and always will be. Same for Moore, as you can see just by looking at this thread.

on edit:Your question about the SCOTUS was already answered so I shortened my post.

23. So.....you're saying Moore voted for Nader?
Or he didn't? I'm confused. That's the only thing I can guess based on your initial comment. If he did vote for Nader, that's no reason to write him off. He's making valuable contributions to our society and I admire and thank him for it. He does it in a way that's controversial at times, and I don't agree with all his methods, but considering that he is successful at getting an audience and considering that very few others have the courage to do what he's doing, I give him huge props and overlook any flaws.

33. Moore begged Nader to concede Florida
and throw his support for Gore, therefore making the election too close to steal.

Nader refused, as he had his eye on the matching federal funds and wanted a certain % of the vote for that purpose.

Nader was more responsible for Bush being able to steal the presidency than Moore.

35. That still doesn't cut it
Moore had been attacking Gore for months on end. And he knew what could very well happen. By then the damage had long since been done.

So yes I do hold Moore responsible for his role in what happened. As much as some DUers refuse to admit it, had Moore not been attacking Gore and pushing the Nader voter, Gore could very well be president today.

82. Well, it appeared to me at the time that...
...had Gore been able to distinguish himself enough from the Republicans in the eyes of the average voter, the Greens wouldn't have got so many votes off him, do you think? Rather than blaming Michael Moore for giving the election "victory" to the Chimp, I'd analyse what went wrong with the Democratic election campaign instead. Michael Moore is a clever bloke and a hell of an intelligent film-maker. He also has real concern and heart for the downtrodden in America, and he deserves all kinds of credit for his work. That's my 2p.

...jiacinto even read Stupid White Men. In it, Moore documents how he told people in the days leading up to the election to vote for Gore in swing states and Nader in blowout either way states, and Nader had a shitfit about it, screaming at Mike on the phone over it. Moore was NOT to blame for 2000, if anything, he was the ONLY Naderite with the right idea.

Later.

And it was too little too late. Frankly Moore had been attacking Gore and supporting Nader for months on end. Sensing the ordeal that was about to follow Moore did that at the last minute. But by then the damage was long since done.

Moore had been attacking Gore for months on end. So I do blame him for that. And it is just sad how some people worship this man as if he can do no wrong.

but many of us do support him. There are few people out there doing what he's doing and getting an audience beyond what's here at DU. We're talking people who had no idea of some of the things that go on in America - some people have walked out of Bowling For Columbine with changed attitudes and eyes opened for the first time. That's an achievement and he needs our support so he can continue exposing people to the truth.

31. After what he did in 2000 I can't support him
He has helped damage this country and I don't see him as a hero. If he truly cared about the damage Bush was going to do to this country he would have campaigned for Gore, not Nader. He would have voted for Gore. But no he had to play an instrumental role in helping Bush win. And yet, among his fans, they get angry whenever anyone dares to bring this up.

I think of a landlord of an apartment complex who knows that his buildings get robbed. I think of that landlord watch a tenant leave his apartment, then see a thief coming, and then do nothing to stop him. And then this person has the gall to then complain and decry about how "bad" thieves are.

That's what I see Moore as being. He did nothing when it really counted and even arguably helped the opposition. And now I am supposed to forget that and support him via buying his books and watching his movies?

he would be this bad. And all those that voted against Gore (by that I mean Bush, Nader, etc) that now claim they wouldn't have guessed it would be "this bad", were woefully ignorant in the last election.

Granted, I didn't see this war coming, but domestically I'm not the least bit surprised as to what he's done. The inequalities of his tax cut were well layed out, and while the mainstream media didn't mention them, there were a million sources on the internet that told how disasterous his policies would be for everyday people.

Many of us could tell Bush was allied with the most fanatical elements of his party. We knew that he would appoint far right idealougues to just about every post in his cabinet and for judgeships. We also knew that Clinton had faught the republicans tooth and nail over issues affecting everyday people -- Nader apologists and Clinton bashers should take a look at what Clinton vetoed, that was passed by the republican dominated congress. Many of those things were brought back, passed and signed into law, under this administration.

So, I will honestly say that I'm not very surprised and anyone that paid any attention to politics before 2000 shouldn't be either. You had to be a gullible fool to buy that Bush was a "moderate" or "compassionate conservative" or "uniter not divider". Anyone with half a brain could have realized these were simply political slogans.

But perhaps I'm being harsh. This was all part of the package sold by the rightwing media. The people simply bought it up.

and see the Big Picture! Don't you get it? Moore doesn't just preach to the choir. He's creating awareness for a lot of new people out there. So his actions in the 2000 election maybe weren't the best way to go. Maybe he's learned from that. Either way, the ones you really ought to be angry with is those who STOLE the election.

I'd ask certain Moore bashers where they were in the late 80's and early 90's when Moore was one of the few voices trying to get attention paid to the massive rip off of the middle and working classes and the poor that was underway.

The Democrats were starting their long smoochero with the corporate butt, and Moore was out there trying to get people to pay attention to the problems of real people.

He isn;t perfcet. But unfortunately he's still light years ahead of the centrist Democrats is seeing reality with the cold light of honesty.

78. "Whatta waste......."
No kidding.

When directly asked about one of the most
disgraceful episodes in the history of our
erstwhile democracy, the CA recall, he just
blabbed about his high school days.

Not one friggen word against it.
I'm so disgusted.

81. Moore has balls
Weather you like him or dislike him, the man has balls. I admire him for standing up and saying what A LOT of people are thinking, but don't have the guts to say.

Bowling was a great example of many things.. if you haven't seen this. Rent or buy it immediately.

Laura
