For those going to DC this weekend, Please Read...
This weekend I suspect that there will be a lot of media. I want to recommend that people make sure that signs that say something to the effect of the following make it out there...

"I support the Warrior, not the War"

I say this because the Right has done a fairly good job of saying, "Look, see, they don't support the troops"

I support the troops, I was a troop once.

"Bring our brave men home"

If we make sure that posters and banners like this are all over the place, then they can not point at a FOX news photo, and say that we hate the troops.

It may be to late, I am not sure if there are printers and such, I will be there with my, "I support the Warrior, not the War."

4. Nice suggestion
I was in the Army and I support the troops. My sign will read, "Bush is a giggling murderer." ;)

I understand what you mean, though. We need to have signs that reflect the true source of our anger and disgust: BUSH. We have to make that clear.

Great post.

5. "Support our troops' RIGHT TO LIFE!" - how about that?
It shows that we support our troops and it slams the whole right to life thing right back in their hypocritical faces!

9. Ooh! That's really to the point, isn't it?
Can that be shown on tv? Thinking of all of the cameras that will be around.

10. TV won't show that sign. It strokes your anger but convinces nobody.

You are not there protesting for the benefit of DU. You are there to chip away and erode the fringes of Bush's base. You won't do it with obscenities or vulgarity. Keep focused on the objective. Republicans out in 2006!

11. Well, they showed that sign on TV...
when I carried it here in Austin in a protest march. It even got me stopped and interviewed.

14. Good work! I am wrong! Keep up the pressure. Thanks!
Thanks for marching. I don't mind being proven wrong, especially in this kind of situation. Whatever my instincts might be to avoid vulgarity and obscenity, I respect those with more experience and success. More power to you!

Austin is pretty laid back about that kind of thing. Not sure anyone here thinks of "ass" as a dirty word. For most places less profanity would probably be better.

17. "one weekend a month my ass!"
was one of the most reprinted pictures from Iraq (on an Army truck)
even here in deepest "Jesusland" where NO "swearing" is ever allowed in newspapers or TV, I saw that one over and over. Its catchy and its a word regularly let through on prime time tv---now, "bullshit" would not make it through....

"ass" and "damn" and "hell" are pretty much ignored now=---I think they are happy it doesn't get any "rougher" than that!

8. Could someone do this one...
Edited on Mon Sep-19-05 03:43 PM by ms liberty
I'm 99% sure I won't be able to get there, but if someone could do this as a banner, I'd love to see it on tv:

JESUS: PRINCE OF PEACE NOT WAR!

with peace in blue and war in red - stick the truth about The Man right out there in the face of the world. Please?

25. Nice! I may spend my Friday evening making signs
That is a great idea!

I tell people all of the time, "I follow the Prince of Peace. There is no Prince of War." They usually gasp like a fish out of water.

Our troops are in the wrong Gulf

The Siege of New Orleans 2005

They Forgot to Color Code Katrina

Make Levees, Not War

Iraq Sand Trap

How Many Deaths To Prove Incompetency?

Leave No Child Behind, except in New Orleans

15. Guys I mean it, Please make something short and sweet,
I say this because if you leave ANY level of thought then we open the doors to the Right Wing Spin.

They are always called bumper sticker battles, and we always loose, mainly because we are to cerebral, to smart for our own good.

“I support the Warrior, Not the War”

It is clean and simple and there is no room for argument, and that is what we have to make sure of, that there is no room for anyone to say, we hate the troops.

All of the other signs are great, but make sure that a nice simple one is in among the crowd, one that shows we support the troops, not the war.

Sorry guys, I just think that we are going to show up in droves, and we are going to be painted as a anti troop march (I think that, because of the planed “support the troop” march, planed by the freepers)

We have the power to take that very argument away from them.

18. Good design is often taking things out. "Support the Warrior, not the War"
You are right. Good design is often taking things out. For example, your slogan is good, but you can take the "I" out of it since if you are carrying the sign, you are presumed to endorse it. Also, making slogans into commands is an effective mobilizer. Thus: "Support the Warrior, not the War"
