5. The fact that we're still in hurricane season...
... was one big reason that I began getting nervous when hearing about FEMA's plans to provide housing to Katrina victims -- in the form of mobile homes and travel trailers.

The possibilities of a followup hurricane destroying hundreds of these temporary homes has made me almost certain that another hurricane is coming. Such have been the events since late 2000 that the improbable and catastrophic have become the norm.

2. We've had a special advisory all afternoon..
scrolling on the weather channel. This is likely to quickly turn into a
hurricane and threaten south Florida or the keys.

3. At this point, they think 18's most likely to keep going due West
That puts it on track to hit Texas or Mexico. There doesn't seem to be anything in place to make it veer north once it's in the Gulf.

And the odds are against Philippe hitting land -- it will probably go northwest a ways and then turn back out to sea.

However, the storms are getting pumped out from the African coast one after another at this point, so there's no telling what's going to happen in the next few weeks.

4. I've got a real bad feeling about this one for Texas
Edited on Sun Sep-18-05 12:41 AM by Gman
We dodged a bullet with Emily in July. We may not be so lucky this time.

Damn.

Here's the GFS Model all the way out to Saturday, 9/24. It shows this as a hurricane going into Brownsville, TX. Of course, these models have huge errors at this point.

13. My best friend lives in Harlingen
I hope she gets to San Antonio (her mom's house) in time, if this proves to be as bad as Katrina.

S.A. is poised to get lots of flooding if that happens....

6. As if that wasn't bad enough ....

Look at all the other storms further out in the Atlantic. They are going over warm water and that gives them more strength. I sure as hell don't want another year like last year.

9. We're "only" halfway through the season
I am gonna sell and get away from the gulf coast ASAP. Rather go back to Cali and again live among the tomato fields.

17. Are we (hurricane area citizens) getting shithammered or what?
Is there an earthquake season? I hope not. I'd hate to think about what people in the earthquake prone areas will suffer if a big one hits. What am I talking about? I live right on the border of NC/SC near the fault in SC and we are in the path of hurricanes every year.
