National Review In A Snit Over Bush's Latest New Orleans Speech

In a piece entitled "How Did Bush Do?" on National Review Online today, T.J. Walker let's loose with the following:

"Appeal to conservatives. Zero. Bush ignored the concepts of individual accountability and responsibility in his speech. In the Bush world, his new moral relativism makes no distinctions between those who bought flood insurance and those who didn't; those who choose to live in safe mountains high above sea level and those who build below sea level in flood zones predicted by every expert to be washed away. Bush's message was redistributionist, collectivist, and nannist. Individuals bear no responsibility for their misfortunes or for their own recovery. Any conservative with third grade math skills or beyond could smell trillions of dollars of budget deficit flowing out of Bush's mouth."

Of course, one could point out to Mr. Walker that when the trillions of dollars in new debt were flowing from the mouth of The Napster and into the pockets of corporations such as Halliburton and whatever entities Poppy Bush and the boys at Carlyle had invested in lately, we never heard a peep from so-called conservatives about things redistributionist, collectivist, or even nannist. Which fits neatly into my long-standing suspicion that it was never about the spending or the borrowing, only who it was that was receiving the loot. George W. Bush never met a dime he wouldn't spend in a heartbeat, so why are "conservatives" only starting to bitch now?

George W.'s facile little attempt at triangulation here might alienate the right, but does anyone really believe he is going to win any points with liberals? That would be my question for the day.

1. Win points with liberals? How? By lying and saying the work was going

to be contracted out to locals when the truth is the exact opposite? By piling tax breaks and credits on religious institutions by letting the take credit for donated money and gifts? (That's fraud it seems to me.)

It's rather amusing, in a sick way....little Porgie is just too clever by half, and no one is buying it, not even his buddies.

He will never get those fake numbers up again, because people are paying attention--seeing death and destruction of your fellow citizens has a way of doing that to one. So all that is left for Porgie is to shovel cash to his interests, as fast as he can, before his time runs out.

This has got to be one of the things that truly frightens Rove and the rest of Bush's political handlers. If it becomes a widely accepted fact that Bush will never again be a popular president, and that the terrible consequences of his administration are a result of White House incompetence, his conservative base will flee.

After all, if there is one thing that truly distinguishes the American "conservative" movement, it is an inability to accept blame for its failures.

In "my" world, if you bought flood insurance then good fer you! and those of you who didn't, just suck it up, it's all your fault you're losers anyway. Those who choose to live in safe mountains high above sea level, like those in Idaho, are the ones who deserve federal assistance! And those who build below sea level in flood zones predicted by every expert to be washed away deserve to bear the responsibility for their misfortunes and for their own recovery.

Is there ANY speech anyone could have given that would have made that jerkazoid happy? I'll bet there's one that would have been liberally sprinkled with phrases such as "final solution", and "labor and re-education camps" and "gays, olive skinned furriners, jews, catholics and all other non-aryans", etc.

Their "ideal" society of a wealthy elite governing over impoverished, disenfranchised, ignorant masses will only work with a government of dictatorial force.

It took Pinochet to implement the Chicago School's economic "free enterprise" policies.

Their so-called "economic freedom" requires extinguishing political liberty.

BTW, the coming economic bankruptcy of the US will be a good excuse to restrict moving currency abroad, giving us what are in effect emigration restrictions. Sounds paranoid, but reality is becoming a paranoid fantasy these days.

11. T.J. Walker is no conservative.

He's a left-of-center media trainer who used to get work as a pundit during the Clinton years. The freepers went after him then, painting him as someone who peddled illegal porn in an effort to harm him. He fought them off. He's based in NYC, and is a pretty good trainer for anyone needing some media presence.
