Trip to UN shows White House in Deep Desperation Mode
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 11:02 AM by kentuck
As some reporters have mentioned on CNN and perhaps other places, it is very rare for a sitting President to attend a Security Council meeting. Why did Bush attend this one? He is desperate to get his polls back up after the debacle and disaster in New Orleans and the Gulf. It has always worked for the President to go abroad or to speak to foreign leaders when he needs a little boost in ratings. However, this time, it is so obvious that it is unlikely to do much good. To the contrary, it may even hurt him more. He seems to be flailing about like a fish out of water when the going has got tough. His heavy-handed approach and dictatorial way of handling the press seems to not be working anymore, and he's running around like a small kid lost at the mall.

1. Good point. I wondered why he was there when I saw a snip.
He hates the UN. I saw one piece where he was talking to an Asian diplomat. The diplomat extended his hand, very clearly, to shake hands. Bush just kept talking and ignored the gesture. He's trippin' and living in a parallel universe.

2. 3 month campaign to create "Statesman" Bush
& raise approval ratings to the high 40's.

It should work, based on the MSM's track record of short term memory loss.

10. I guess after Bush's latest insult to the UN, his "gift" of Bolton,
the UN doesn't feel too friendly to Bush.

4. As they say in show biz, bad publicity is better than no publicity.
Shrub's handlers are trying to make him look "presidential." He just looks humiliated and pathetic.

MESSAGE TO WHITE HOUSE: It's time to fire Rover - he's clearly lost his touch.

24. Don't forget that if Bush wants to bomb Iran, he will
And if Cheney tells him to invade Iran he will. They already have a plan to just take the SW, where the oil is, and simply bomb and harass the rest of the country.

If that doesn't work out, Cheney will tell him to reinstate the draft. Then you've got the Roman Empire all over again.

7. The White House has more than this up their sleeves to boost his...
numbers. They are desperate at this point and will try everything and anything. As mentioned in another post the military is saying bin Laden is sick and seeking medical help. How do they know this unless they know where he is. As I posted earlier, are we being set up for bin Ladens capture to bolster bush's ratings.

15. Naw. They would've done it before the election.
I think they would like to "do" Iran and/or Syria right now, but EVERYONE is saying that would blow up in their faces. Literally.

Since he did Iraq to get a little boost in the midterm elections ($100,000+ dead) we can expect him to try the same for next year.

would attend this security council meeting. And I knew it wasn't true. I had remembered Clinton addressing the security council. Google is your friend.

18. bush needs to show he's in charge of something!
The Gulf Coast has had devastating effects on his most prized political possession, perceived "leadership". Iraq has hundreds of people killed or wounded today. The world has seen the amazing amount of poverty that exists within the US and he no longer has moral authority to speak about human rights or democracy.

Me thinks there is also trepidation over Fitzgerald wafting in from the background too.

21. Right! And now with the US being perceived as the poorest of
the industrialized nations, the Bush legacy is coming clear to everyone - he has driven this country into ruin and privation and the US ruling elite do not care. The rest of the world has come to see the US, as a nation, as insane. So every time our crazy president slouches onto a stage they simply look on with pity and horror and apprehension; what will the demented fool, leader of demented fools, do next? God Bless America - and - Don't Crush That Dwarf/Hand Me The Wrench....

Unless he's standing in front of them telling them to "go Cheney" themselves, his base will just short out at this. My goodness, in a weeks time playing nice at the UN AND kissing "n----s" in the devestated Katrina region is just enough to make them choke on their crosses!!!

8 with Independents
and 2 with Dems (no where to go on that count anyway)

This isn't going to sell with the cons (if Fox News mentions it).

Realize that if they don't have him to go out and campaign for the midterms that they are in huge trouble and he has no real purpose for them.

26. I have never heard such bs as his speech

He spent more than his alotted time (of 4 minutes) and he publicly absused other members in his speech. Hardly diplomatic behaviour!! More Bolton-like behaviour.

He is certainly not pResidential material and I fail to understand how the US could elect such a moron!!

The shit he dribbled at the UN today was pathetic. Utterly childish and beyond the pale. With poor US citizens being treated like chattel he spoke about poverty and freedom?

I wanted to kick the TV my partner would have killed me for that so I restrained myself. Bush is an abject fucking miseable failure.
