For the FIRST time--the talking points and spin didn't work
That is SOMETHING.
I don't believe that Bush is sorry, or contrite, or anything really.
There was no place to go but to stick his feet in the water and try taking responsibility...but it's just another gallon of snake oil.
People will fall for it though. Kinda like all those REPUGS that always seem to "misspeak".
It's always forgiven.

1. It's obviously to save his political ass.
which is really pathetic. I think his entire spin team should be butt-reamed in the media. And I also think he should be impeached for his dereliction of duty and his allegiance to the upper crust at the expense of the rest of us, and especially the people of NO.

6. I think this will cripple him permanently.
He has shown abject incompetence. He should be locked in a padded room with a helmet on so he doesn't hurt anyone else.

8. He has no strong points left
the polls seem to say that the public doesn't like anything he has to offer. I can't see how he could make a significant comeback now.
If only they had believed us last November!

2. I'm sure when it's convenient, * will have been "misquoted."
There is no way in hell I believe that meglomanic sociopath that has NEVER, NEVER, NEVER taken responsibility for his actions his entire life is going to have a life-changing epiphany now. Just.Doesn't.Happen.

3. I don't believe that Bush is sorry
I don't either, but it was a good burn. Republicans heads will explode and shrub is most likely in major mental anguish for having to finally "take responsibility".

5. Talking points and spin can't work without a perceived enemy
There is no enemy that the public can rally against so they are turning inward and eating their own. This is the Straussian's worst nightmare.

14. That is what I thought, too.
The spin isn't working, the press is asking hard questions and Bush is slipping with his base. So might as well try taking responsibility, see if that will make nice with the base voters.

Who knows, they might forgive him, they always have in the past. But to me, it is too late. This is another misstep. Now he looks even more indecisive. "Brownie is doing a heck of a job, it is Blanco's fault, let's not play the blame game" and when none of the spin worked, now he takes "responsibility". Color me skeptical.
