Hurricane Ophelia Determined to Strike - Does FEMA Know?
There's a Hurricane off the coast of North Carolina! Please, all DU'ers, it's our responsibility to inform FEMA so they can organize a response in time. It's up to us - we can't expect them to keep track of things like this themselves. Everybody, please, take a few minutes and call the Region IV FEMA office in Atlanta:

(770) 220-5200

Ask them to please, please, turn on the Weather Channel, real quick.

3. FEMA doesn't believe in the Weather Channel
FEMA probably doesn't even have TVs. You know, kind of like the big Chimp. Doesn't watch TV (except maybe ESPN), doesn't read newspapers.

A real "don't confuse me with facts" bunch.

4. Maybe we should
have this become an activist activity. Goodness knows they won't find out about it unless we tell them. :evilfrown:

6. Don't worry! Tanyev has notified them:

Dear Brownie,

Since you didn't seem fully prepared for the last hurricane that hit our shores, I am taking it upon myself to let you know that another hurricane is headed our way. My local weather forecaster said that Hurricane Ophelia is predicted to hit land on Tuesday, in South Carolina. This would be a real good time to pre-position your people in advance of the storm's landfall. Make sure they have lots of water and food with them to help people whose homes may be destroyed.

Fortunately for you, the city of South Carolina is much closer to Washington D.C. than the city of Louisiana. A quick glance at my United States atlas shows that you can get there by taking Interstate 95 out of D.C., south through the city of Virginia, continuing south through the entire city of North Carolina, and poof! There you are. If you need more detailed directions, www.mapquest.com is an excellent resource.

Please let me know if you have any further questions. I have no illusions that I will ever be rewarded for my efforts by hearing George W. Bush tell me I did a heck of a job, but I am still happy to help in any way that I can.

Sincerely,

tanyev
Concerned Citizen

13. Nice.
I especially liked your references to the cities of Virginia, Louisiana, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

We must endeavor to keep Brownie up to speed on his geography.

7. I actually called them ... for real
Asked the receptionist if they had the Weather Channel on. She said, no they didn't. Told them they should put it over on there right now because there was a hurricane coming. She seemed interested; I hope she passes my message along. I also told her where they could buy one of those little radios with the National Weather Service frequency built in. Told her they might find it useful sometime.

8. It looks like the probability is that it will be minor
Although there is the outside chance of a cat 3.

Probably a low to moderate Cat 1.

Of course, one never knows...be prepared.

9. A lot of Republicans live in that area
They probably deserve to live, so I hope FEMA read their newspaper this morning.

10. Brown still looking for hand outs should resign, but this is one time
I'm glad isn't dumping him, it only goes to show Bush's ability to delegate/lead... and to boot - Bush calls himself the war president?!?!?!

11. FEMA is checking to see if its headed for the $1 million beach homes
or the low-income neighborhoods, and will act accordingly.
