Be prepared to hear a lot of negative stories about NOLA exiles...
We won't hear enough about the 99% who behave with grace, courage,
and dignity. We will hear much about the other 1% who behave badly,
and it will feed the racism/classism which has already characterized the
aftermath of Katrina.

The population of New Orleans included criminals, drug-addicts, and other
anti-social folks just as any American city does. These people will probably
not change their ways because of the destruction of New Orleans,
although some of them may. The racists/classists will expect oh-so-
humble gratitude from all the former residents of New Orleans for whatever
they have been given, and will be outraged by any other response.

1.  ''What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is
they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them."

3. If you notice in all the stories about looting -vs- giving
they show the black people looting and then cut to white people volunteering and giving their money. It's no accident...

Most of the stories about the people who helped others in New Orleans are about white folks also.

4. One story gaining traction locally (San Francisco)
is about a power play between various factions to house the "exiles" - in terms of "New Left" versus "Old Left" versus "Anarchist Left" etc. (remember - this is San Francisco).

In any event, after the first plane load FEMA cut off the evacuation flights to the Bay Area - the cover story was that the people didn't want to go that far. The story on the street was that Governor Boobengrabber didn't cut the checks to Mayor Gavin, Mayor Jerry, and Mayor Ron because he was afraid of the jockeying between the "New Left" versus "Old Left" versus "Anarchist Left."

5. Why is it that
every time I see here I think of Ellie Iselin?
