What the HELL? MSM Is Going Pro-Bush Again?

Yesterday I was annoyed that NBC's Chris Matthews painted Bush's move to bring Brown back to Washington as a good thing, that Bush was cracking the whip in demoting Brown. In reality it was no change at all - Brown is still Director of FEMA. Just another Bush deception.

Now I'm watching NBC Meet the Press. Russert really went after Mayor Nagin. Seems to be framing it as the fault of local officials, and in particular, Nagin's fault. Now I'm pissed, because the media has seemingly turned pro-bush again, taking on the same damn Repug talking points that it was the fault of state & local governments.

We KNOW that when Bush declared a State of Emergency for LA, all coordination of relief and rescue efforts would be the responsibility of the Federal Government via FEMA. So why aren't we hearing this from the mainstream media?

Easy for Russert to be sitting in his nice, comfy office blaming everyone but the Chimp.

The reporters who have been covering this story, however, have really changed in my opinion. I dont think the MSM is going to be like it was before Katrina.

At least I sure hope not.

Just like those "poor colored folks" couldn't leave NOLA cause they needed their welfare checks, the corporate media whores need to stay true to their puppetmasters and bosses. The emotion and passion of the reality of the moment is now fading and the pundits can come out of hiding and try to control the story and the spin again.

Note that neither Tweety or Russert were down in NOLA. They sat in comfy studios and they were blasted by the blame game talking points...they're just doing their "job"...and spreading the misinformation that got them their big paychecks and large egos.

Somewhere Randi Rhodes posted the RNC blast fax talking points for this morning. Someone started a thread on this here. We'll see how close these talking asshats came to what Mr. Rove and Mehlmann want them to say.

when Katrina stuck - commander bunnypants was off eating fucking cake with McCain, giving tired speeches to hand picked audiences of military people, playing a guitar and doing his usual jack off shit - and all he did once the heat was on was stage a photo op. People remember things like that a lot better than little niggling talking points spread by well fed pink men in expensive suits.

I think he asked him the tough questions that Nagin needs and wants to answer, and Nagin's answers were honest, on the mark and dispelled the notion that he was negligent in his duties.

respond to the smears being spread by the right-wingers and set the record straight. I would much prefer that to Russert having a right-winger on there spewing the crap that is out there with no opportunity for Nagin to respond.

Nagin certainly has struck me as someone who can stand up to hard questioning and lay the facts out there.

Nagin and Blanco were supposed to equip Gretna to handle 100,000 evacuees.

Nagin and Blanco know it is safer to evacuate 100,000 evacuees to the south of a ruined city locked in by the river and gulf instead of going north and east or west out of the area.

back when we were at Level 3 and didn't have "my posts", but somebody with media experience on DU (well, claiming to have it) said that in times of natural disasters, the "powers that be" tend to loosen the leashes on the media for a brief time, but then it is soon back to normal.

What we see on t.v. and in MSM these days is rarely investigative journalism (although following Katrina there was more of this going on then usual)- it's corporately sponsored sound bites and stories. So, Russert is clearly doing what MSM traditionally does- "hard questions" designed to spin the story in the direction their sponsors and owners prefer. Sometimes it's more blatant then others (like on Faux), others it's more subtle.

Hopefully those reporters who were on the ground and reported the story before the spin started, will hold their ground and continue to broadcast the truth. But we can only hope...
