UPDATED SEPT 11 '05: HURRICANE PET RESCUE INFORMATION
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 12:25 AM by shireen
Updated Sept. 11 '05

Very detailed link for helping HUMANS:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4508159
or see yellow box at top of Discussion Forums page.

MOST USEFUL PET RESCUE SITE:
http://www.vetmed.lsu.edu

ATTENTION! RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY KATRINA
(from http://www.vetmed.lsu.edu )
If you have Pets in Need of Rescue from Disaster Areas
Residents who left pets in their homes please send an e-mail to [email protected] or call toll-free (888) 773-6489 between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm CDT (Saturday 8:00 am–1:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 pm until 6 pm) to leave information about the number of animals that need rescuing, their species, and their confined location.

Residents are now being allowed back into certain parts of the Greater New Orleans areas. While we will do everything we can to rescue as many animals as possible, your pets will have a better chance if you can get in and rescue them yourselves. Please watch the news media for announcements of which areas residents may re-enter.

If you do rescue your pet yourself after requesting rescue through this shelter, please notify us so that we can remove your name from the waiting list.

If you need a place to leave your pets for housing and care after rescue, please bring them to us at the John M. Parker Coliseum on the LSU Campus. We will care for them until you can be permanently reunited.

Note: Some of you may have seen a message about an urgent need for animal foster care, with instructions to contact Lynda V at 203 515 3024 (cell) or 203 227 5308 (home) or email her at [email protected] . Your email message may get bounced back if her mailbox is full. When I called her home number Sept. 9, there was a recording saying they could not take information over the phone. Anyone willing to adopt or foster a pet should go to http://www.carams.org and fill out an application. Do not call carams.org -- they have their hands full right now, and need to keep their telephone lines open for emergencies.

PLEASE ADD OR UPDATE INFORMATION

2. NOAH's Wish deals exclusively with pet rescue
all volunteer organization. Nation wide.
Check out their web site. I donated to them. They were there for Florida too, setting off drop off shelters pre-storm! Good people.

10. I donated to HSUS and ASPCA...

both organizations have rescue teams in the area.

www.aspca.org

I've also heard some good things about Noah's wish. I've researched them and will be sending a donation to them as well. From what I've seen, they look like an excellent organization!
