The doom I felt that horrible day In Jan 2001 could never match the horror
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 10:14 AM by greenbriar
we have experienced under W

That day I sat crying just trying not to think of the horrible 4 years we would have to endure.

I know the deficit would rise, I knew big business would profit,

I even figured we would be in a war

I did NOT know the depths of horror we would have to endure for the next 4 + years.

I did not know the depths of corruption we would uncover or the blind faith the stupid people would follow.

I know there would be doom, I just didn't anticipate how much

1. Funny, it's almost EXACTLY what I expected.
The specifics are different... I didn't know that he would attack *Iraq* specifically, but I knew there'd be a war. Or some kind of lets-rally-round-the-flag-and president national catastrophe.

As it turned out, we got lots of both.

2. While we were waiting for the recounts I got a "message" from
on-high telling me that if ** took office we would see the worst war we'd ever seen.

The sad thing is that I am still not sure that has actually been fulfilled. I suspect it has not.

11. Doesn't it, though? I was filled with dread the 6 months after the
last election. I don't believe I have ever suffered such depression. And I still think the worst is to come! How can we possibly get through 3 more years of this rape gang? Every time I think they have done the worst, they commit some other crime/blunder/outrage that tops THAT.

12. I Have Been the Same Way
& my conservative relatives don't understand my fear & depression at all. That's what really hurts. I cannot understand the disconnect from reality that I am seeing from conservatives. I keep thinking I am in the Twilight Zone.

5. Well the message was the message.. I have no control over that :^(
I wonder if we have control over making it not true, though?

What if it was a warning that if we aren't careful that is what _could_ happen.. not _would_ happen?

Of course if there is a civil war and nukes start falling out of the sky somewhere, I'll know we weren't able to stop it.

7. I also had a vision of cataclismic death and destruction under a red sky
I've seen 9/11 and now Katrina, but my vision wasn't about a catastrophe, it was a cataclismic event and I'm not sure it's happened yet either. In my vision, the view is of a city with many buildings blown away - the sky is red and people are running around in horror. It was also clear in the vision that Bush was to blame for these events. I sure hope it was just 9/11 I was seeing...

6. That Was A Cold Day
I was dazed and still was under the illusion that my worst fears were my worst fears. Hell, I'd survived Nixon and Raygun, this doofus couldn't be any worse. Just another figurehead manipulated by the powerbrokers who only care to make money.

No way could I envision that there's be a devestating war or the ruthless supression of dissent or the activities of the neo-cons and chickenhawks who now had the federal purse strings and beauracracy at their control.

If I felt that way, I knew a majority was giving this manchild a pass. It was obvious in the campaign of 2000 and I suspected that it would remain for a while...little did I expect it to play on 5 years later.

I expected that sooner-or-later these goons would fuck up and the media would go after them like they went after Clinton. Little did I realize how deeply conflicted and compromised most the pundits were and how organized and ruthless the Rove/RNC spin machine was to turn fact on its head and create a parallel universe that we deal with today.

The saddest day was Jan. 20, 2005...the ache of another election still burning deeply and the resentment and anger stronger than ever.

8. i knew election night 2000
when dan rather called florida for gore and the look on mary matalin's face said it all - she knew that wasn't correct, it was already fixed for * and dan et al were just momentarily off the script. i knew then we were screwed beyond belief. it was out of our hands.

I noticed it,

at the time, I didn't know what i was looking at, because I was still naive enough to think elections were honest

10. So few people get out and vote
they think it doesn't matter. True, the electoral college is a big fix for top office--but we should get everyone out for local, state and congressional elections. We need a progressive revolution to get the rest of government back.
