4. I have a faint memory of something like that

I know that travelers trying to leave on airplanes and trains were stranded and eventually moved to the Thunderdome. I mean Superdome.

I know that they switched back to 'single outgoing freeway' a few hours before the storm to let emergency personnel back in. I think I might have read a few accounts of people unsuccessfully trying to leave in a car, too, but I can't remember where I read it (other than it was probably linked from DU somewhere).

7. It took a CNN reporter all day to get from New Orleans to Biloxi.

I watched it on TV. In fact, I don't think they made it all the way to Biloxi before the storm hit. If you do a search at CNN, you might find the story.
