7. absolutely, however there've been a lot of private rescues, too
On Oprah today (my god, I can't believe I've watched two episodes in a row of Oprah), they had an anesthesiologist on who single-handedly saved over 50 dogs at a hospital. There are bound to be lots of people like him.

3. The pain of leaving their pets to die will scar those people forever.

there is not much joy to be had at this news. how many are dead after being abandoned? 6000?

If they wouldn't rescue my dog & cat, too, I'd refuse to leave.

5. I once left a pet with someone while I went away. It caught a cold and
died. Whenever I want to feel crappy, I think of my poor little parrot and how I abandoned it.

6. I'm with you on that!
There's no way that I would evacuate my home and leave my four-legged "kids" to fend for themselves. They have brought so much joy to me over the years that I can't even imagine leaving them and would rather die with them if it came to that than to survive and live with the knowledge that I let them behind.
