I heard some right wing nuts complaining about this on the radio. A few asked if any reparation monies would be used to, and I quote, "buy crack."

I don't think it should all be in the form of cash but it shouldn't be skimmed for infrastructure and 40% overheard costs.

Should be given special compensation because their damages can be directly linked to something that was completely preventable. It was well known that this could/would happen if the levee's weren’t revamped and the funding for that was cut drastically. This didnt have to happen.

Their lives were sacrificed to tax cuts for the wealthy. Their lives were sacrificed for the sake of reduced disaster mitigation and recovery costs ... and redirection of such spending to corporate privateers.

10. A victim's compensation fund SHOULD NOT replace other compensation.

I totally disagreed with the 9/11 provisions that required victims to surrender their civil rights to tortious compensation.

The families/survivors of those who lost their lives in Katrina should be compensated $500,000, 90% paid at the Federal level and 10% at the state level ... without any surrender of insurance claims or tort claims against private entities. Those permanently disabled or disfigured should receive compensation at lower rates, depending on degree. The medical costs any victim incurs should be totally covered.

It's a shitload of money -- no, actually more like a hundred shitloads. On the other hand, since the government is already throwing a couple hundred shitloads of cash on the bonfire over in Iraq, they probably wouldn't even notice.

Hey, I know what you could do, though! Since it was an act of "god", and you can't sue "god", just sue its representatives. Tax the churches and give the money to the victims of Katrina! What's left over can be distributed amongst the victims of the churches.

9. 9/11 victims compensation was a deal not to sue airliners

The reason the 9/11 victims got so much money is because they had to sign that they were not going to sue the Airlines. Since you cannot sue govt the Katrina victims will not get such a good deal. The 9/11 deal was more to protect the airlines than to help those suffering. Part of 'compassionate conservative'?
