Hilarious/appalling Wal-Mart exchange a friend had
This was right before the election, but another post by Ohio_Liberal about her conversation with her fundie neighbors reminded me of this. Be afraid, be very afraid.

WAL-MART CASHIER (mid-30s white woman): What's your pin say?

FRIEND: (holding it up closer to cashier) It says "If women don't vote, it's a man's world."

CASHIER: What's that supposed to mean?

FRIEND: It means what it says; if we don't vote and participate in democracy, it won't care about what we want and think is important.

CASHIER: Are you some kind of feminist or something? Like, you don't support the president?

FRIEND: Well, yes, I am a feminist, actually, and I don't think a feminist can very well support the current president, but that wasn't the point of my pin.

CASHIER: Well, I support the president!

FRIEND: Do you READ the paper? Do you KNOW anything that's happening outside of this town?

CASHIER: No, but I pray about it.

1. That reminds me of the song
"Fishin 4 Religion" by Arrested Development.
It's about action not just praying.

2. So all feminists don't support the president? Loose associations...
That cashier twit needs to be given the MMPI... she might have schizophrenia.

Seriously. Loose associations...

Not the least bit surprising.

4. I guess all those years of Rush calling feminists "Femi-Nazis"...
Has caused this stupid asshole to mentally link feminism with liberalism. Fuck her!

10. Yes, and all of these gals who rant
about "feminists" and "feminism" would be pretty damned lost without all of the gains that the women's movement made for them. The sad thing is, they take said gains and rights for granted and don't even realize it. You try to tell them things like women couldn't even have credit on their own thirty years ago and they look at you like you're from Mars.

Drives me as crazy as anti-union workers, when if it weren't for unions they wouldn't have any of the rights they enjoy now in the workplace. What little of them are left, that is.

11. Credit cards! YES!
I keep telling people about that!

How recent it was. Like f*cking Saudi Arabia.

I can see how women could be against radical lesbian separatism... but feminism? Nawwww....

12. Well, the right has done a damn good
job on the word "feminism" these past few decades, to the point where even people who are in favor of women's rights (i.e., every sane American) associates that word with radical lesbian man-hating. Of course, that was their point since they'd love to see women back to being barefoot in the kitchen and pregnant.

8. Friend should have asked the cashier
if she was willing to do the same work as a man for less money, simply because she's a woman. If she was willing to never be able to rise to management simply because she's a woman. Oh, wait a minute-the cashier works for Wal-Mart! She must agree with both these concepts!

18. Did she vote for Bush?
If she did, she'd better be grateful to the feminists. Without feminism she wouldn't have been allowed to vote for anyone.

Does she get to keep her entire paycheck less taxes? If so, it's because feminists won the right for women to own property.

Could she by any chance be single and living alone? Used to be a woman couldn't have a mortgage in her own name or sign an apartment lease in her own name.
