Lieberman point counter-point, in all fairness
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 11:36 AM by HeLovedBigBrother
I think Lieberman is a very intelligent and charismatic human being. But listening to this speech sums up my problem with the current Dem leadership:

He says "We trusted them to do this, we trusted them to do that, they pledged this, yet they did that...they promised all of these things yet they did the opposite." He is citing *very* important issues, like the environment, corporate reform, "mission accomplished", child care, etc...he quotes Bush's promises and then whines how Bush did the opposite.

But...WHAT DID HE EXPECT??

I learned, even before Bush was selected, that whatever came out of his mouth, expect the exact opposite. Most of DU, from what I gather, never fell for Bushit for one nanosecond to begin with.

So, thank you Lieberman, but you're being Captain Obvious, and not really pointing out anything we (Dems/lefties) haven't already been seething about for years.

He's telling us to "never forget." He's saying "never trust Bush again."

"They think they can fool America."

Joe, Mr-should-be-VP, many many MANY of us never trusted Bush to begin with, and we never forgot a single detail. WE were NEVER fooled...How could we be?

He's talking down to us.

1. Exactly!
That's my feeling too. Lieberman is a strange bird and I believe he's more of a Republican than a Democrat. He can't seem to make up his mind.

2. It amazes me our Democratic leadership still falls for this
crap. During Reagan and Bush 1, the republicans spent 12 years covering-up Iran-Contra crap and defending their trickle-down economics. I don't remember the Democrats doing much very loudly. One said later that they allowed Reagan to "ride off into the sunset". They pretty much said nothing during the Clinton attacks for 8 years. They didn't get off to a good start when Bush first came in and they haven't said a word (until very recently with the exception of Senator Byrd) since 9-11. I have often said over the last 20 years that I wonder if the Democrats are just republican props to make we the people believe there is really a 2 party system.

I had severe reservations about Bush when he started to get the nomination. There were two things that proved what kind of man he is: the hassle with www.gwbush.com and the S. Carolina primary. In SC, he gave a speech at the racists university, defended his right to give it before the speech, and then when we went on to Michigan (I think), he said he didn't realize what kind of people they were and he was sorry he had done it.

As for the www.gwbush.com thing - he tried to by the website. The owner said $200,000 (or some big figure). Instead of negotiating about the price, Bush brought in his lawyers. They could win, so he called the FCC and tried to get the guy shut down.

3. He knew it, too...
...this is just a campaign tactic IMO. I think there is some logic behind the tactic. I don't think many Americans expected Bush to be as hard-core rightwing as he has turned out to be. The conventional wisdom was that he would be bi-partison on some issues, and centrist in a few more. To tell the truth, I never thought Bush would be THIS bad.

By claiming Bush lied to us makes it easier for former Bush supporters to swing to a Democrat. It's a lot better tactic than saying "We tried to tell you, America, but you just wouldn't listen!!"

4. Joe- throw your votes to Dean
Back to Lieberman, He is an honest man and I like that. But he should be a republican with the views he has.
Spend more over in the Middle East then we do on our kids in school?

I don’t think so!

That is the rally call for the election.

Do you want Gun’s or Butter?

The regime change starts at Home!

5. He and Pelosi are good people...
But easily fooled, no need for them to aim for an even higher office.

Ego, ego...
