How many shoes do they have left to drop?
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 11:03 AM by Minstrel Boy
Bush Co, that is.

Ever since 9/11, I've had this knot in my stomach: an apprehension about what the scoundrels are going to pull next to further consolidate their power.

The other shoe.

And the closer we come to 2004, the greater my apprehension. Is it warranted? Am I giving them too much credit to keep my stomach knotted like this?

That the CIA is evidently turning on the White House is encouraging, though not necessarily for American democracy, but for the likelihood of a palace coup. And it's also a salient reminder that institutional power in Washington is not monolithic, and not yet wholly consolidated by the Bush crew.

The White House appears vulnerable now. But its vulnerability only tightens the knot in my stomach, and makes me fear the more desperate and bloody measures it may resort to in the next 13 months.

Do they have another shoe?

2. Probably
They might have something up their sleeves. But everything is going to backfire.

Americans don't want another war and will react accordingly if Bush gets us into another one.

If there's another terrorist attack the Bush administration's lack of preparedness will get the attention of the public, not its empty platitudes about the victims.

The RW's strategy of branding dissenters as unpatriotic has been tarnished, to say the least, by the Wilson affair.

Nothing Bushco can do can help them now.

3. Well, They Might Have Been Planning on
Knocking over another country. But with the Iraqi resistance and the costs of the occupation, that's pretty much out the window. Very few terrorist attacks rise to the level of a 9-11. Personally, I think they're shot their wad. No more ammo.
