Homeless of St. John's Hospice give to Katrina's victims
I just wanted to share this.

Amazing how people who have almost literally NOTHING will give what they have...

From the Philadelphia Daily News:

The homeless men of Philadelphia's St. John's Hospice don't have much. But they are gathering their pennies - literally - to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. "They've already filled up two jars with coins, dollar bills, whatever they have," said Matthew Gambino, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Catholic Social Services runs the Race Street shelter, which houses about 40 men and feeds hundreds more each day. The shelter's food service manager, Anthony Willoughby, helped come up with the idea, Gambino said, after the men said they desperately wanted to help in any way they could. "They know what it's like, going without," said Donna Farrell, director of the archdiocese's Office for Communications.

2. And yet at the same time, so many of the well-off begrudge anything
given to the poor. I wish I believed in Hell so I could imagine the special place the greedy fucks who run or enable our putrid, corrupt government would have in it.

Their pennies are more precious than all the millions from those who have so much, this is the TRUE spirit of giving.

4. Blessed are the poor..........
There is something in the Bible about this, something about a poor widow who gave a pittance, that Jesus said it was a greater act than a rich man giving much more, because she gave such a greater proportion of what little she had.

5. Exactly.
What generous souls. Even with so little, they still are willing to give what they have to help others.

12. Reminds me of something that happened in downtown Portland
a few years ago.

I was waiting for a bus near a bank that had an outdoor ATM late one evening, when I heard one of the many homeless who live downtown call out, "Sir! You forgot your Visa card!"

He chased after a yuppie-looking man who had just gotten some money.

"Sir! Your Visa card!"

The yuppie man just reached his hand out, barely turning his head, and took the card without a word.

The phrase "yuppie scum" came to mind. After all, if it was indeed a real Visa card, not a cash-only card, the homeless man could have kept it and bought out half a store before the yuppie even missed it.

I was so upset with the ungrateful yuppie wretch that I dug around in my purse and found a five dollar bill. I gave it to the homeless man and told him to buy himself a nice breakfast the next morning. (At that time, it would have been enough.)

17. Tima and time again, its always the same
A hungry man will feed the others

A busy man will give his time

A poor man will give his all

God bless these people .... so typical.

As you do for the least of us, so do you do unto me.
