Enough is enough!!!!!
SouthernDem2004, this is for you. I feel for you. I am very glad that you made it through. I am very sorry for the people on this board made your very educated post of your personal feelings of this disaster, locked.
I have had it. This was a "Natural Disaster"!!! Yes, it was foreseen, yes people were warned. Why are we making this a political disaster??? Who is to blame?? Oh, Yes, let's blame the pResident, for he is to blame for everything!!! Oh how we forget, that we are the "United States." Every state for themselves. Umm, isn't that the reason why we have governors and mayors?? They are the ones that make the calls, not the pResident. Once the pResident sees that they have not made the calls that are needed to make, then he makes his. http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisiana/index.ssf?base/news-18/1125239940201382.xml&storylist=louisiana
Make of it what you will. This is a call for the "United States" to come together as one to help each other, not to cause a "Civil War" between the two major political parties. We need to pull together, pushing aside our differences and help each other out.

illegal war. "Tin-foilers" indeed. The Tin-foilers were right about no WMDs and the lies this sh*tty administration told us.

We have heard this enough. It's our obligation as US citizens to ask questions.

I for one, can help people by doing what I can, and still try my dead-level best to get rid of this scum stinking up our white house.

Save your lecture.

When did the President make those calls to get the help that was needed? What was he doing in the meantime, those 2 days before he called, when people were drowning?

FEMA has inexplicably failed to take advantage of offers of help.

http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breakingtp/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_Times-Picayune/archives/2005_09.html#076637

U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., Saturday accused the Federal Emergency Management Agency of failing to accept offers that would have eased post-hurricane problems in New Orleans -- including a plan for the Forest Service to douse fires in the city with aircraft used to fight fire.

On Friday, Landrieu asked President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to oversee Hurricane Katrina relief and recovery efforts. She reiterated that request on Saturday.

"Yesterday, I was hoping President Bush would come away from his tour of the regional devastation triggered by Hurricane Katrina with a new understanding for the magnitude of the suffering and for the abject failures of the current Federal Emergency Management Agency," Landrieu said. "Twenty-four hours later, the President has yet to answer my call for a cabinet-level official to lead our efforts. Meanwhile, FEMA, now a shell of what it once was, continues to be overwhelmed by the task at hand.

Landrieu said that FEMA has inexplicably failed to take advantage of offers of help.

would you try to save people while being shot at??? Who's life do you value??? Your's or the people that were told to evac?? Granted there are the poor there that have no transportation, however this was ordered 2 days before the hurricane hit. There is always taking the bus up town or walking, or even if you are ill and not able to go anywhere, I am sure that the numerous hospitals there would have taken people in.

24. I STRONGLY disagree.
If the choice were between taking a risk that I might be shot or injured, or standing by and watching thousands of people die, the choice is clear. I, personally, would take the risk. I, personally, expect my government - which includes the MILITARY who is PAID by my tax dollars to take that risk - to take the risk that I myself am willing to take to save lives.

By your reasoning, the police should not put their lives at risk to control crime for the public good. That's a recipe for anarchy, and since that's the recipe the government followed, the results of that policy are clear on the ground in New Orleans.

You seem to be making a whole lot of excuses for a total lack of concern for human life by our government. Why?

That's just crazy talk. It's illegal to walk on a highway median, anyway -- and where else are you going to walk? It's not as if the rural south is covered with hiking trails...

The hospitals had ENOUGH problems, as you can tell.

And the reports of people shooting at rescuers are HIGHLY exaggerated.

35. Human life is always paramount!
If I give blood and it saves a human life, regardless of whose it is, then giving blood serves the purpose to which it is intended.

In contrast, I paid tax dollars to a government who decided that our lives were not worth saving - and so, kept the money, but refused to do the job for which they were paid. If a charity did this, they could be charged with fraud. Look it up.

The actions by the Federal Government in this instance are nothing less than complete dereliction of duty and comes very close to, if not meets the criteria of, criminally negligent homicide. My tax dollars pay for this?

Wake up and smell the coffee. Your government is stealing your money, abscounding with it, and giving you the finger when you expect service in return for your cash.

Reasonably safe includes funding projects that will keep us safe--not throwing our money straight down a rabbit hole called Halliburton.

8. There was nothing natural about this disaster. It was manmade.
Global warming is manmade. The destruction of the wetlands is manmade. The failure to plan for an anticipated disaster was manmade.

The man in charge of this nation is George W. Bush. He appointed the head of Homeland Security. He chose Michael Brown. Bush CHOSE to play golf rather than rushing to see the scope of the disaster.

Americans died who survived the hurricane BECAUSE of George's choices.

The blame belongs to George.

And if you can't handle blame, then you might want to turn off the tv and radio, and not look at any newstands for a while.

What happened was unconscionable and I will NEVER forgive it. I suspect I'm not alone.

15. I STRONGLY Disagree.
The Bush Administration has basically told states "you're on your own" in their efforts to limit (strangle) government. The problem with that approach is that MAJOR CRISES are simply TOO BIG to be handled at the local level. There are simply not enough resources!

In this case, that criminally negligent failure to assist states with a MAJOR CRISIS has cost American lives. There is NO EXCUSE for that, and the buck stops at the White House who set the policy.

Even worse, their OWN policies ceded responsibility to the feds, they failed to hold up their end of the deal, and now they're trying to pin the blame everywhere except where it belongs. They screwed up BIG TIME, and it has cost American lives. Not one, not two, but maybe hundreds or thousands of American lives. That is NOT ACCEPTABLE!

To be honest, I question why you're justifying the government, to whom we pay taxes and whose activities we fund, abandoning us in our most desperate need to support some political philosophy (or worse, the power of a political party and it's ideology) and allowing us to die. That is UNACCEPTABLE and I WILL NOT be silent!

Bush WILL take responsibility for what he has done. No argument, no spin, no excuses. IMO, it's YOU who should be silent!

I don't think I'll "come together" on that one.

In fact, I think I will scream and yell and nash my teeth and cry and scream and yell some more. Then I'll do whatever I can to remove the people in power who deliberately let this happen -- either by plan or by ideology.

I will never, ever "come together" about what happened in New Orleans, or the rest of the Gulf Coast.

If you want to lay down with mass murderers, that's unfortunate. Don't expect me to EVER recognize a plea to do the same.

The Bushies don't want to 'come together' with us. They want to own us. Brand us like cattle.

This has little to do with a 'natural disaster'. This is about the 2000 coup and fascists taking away our democracy and government for their own greedy purposes. They have raped and plundered our nation's resources. They misuse our military to start aggressive wars...sucking dry our treasury to pay war profiteers. They have 'privatized' our federal government to the point where there is nothing left to serve the people.

We're WAY past the point of working with these fascists. Our nation can't survive as long as they're in power and working outside the Constitution and rule of law. Bush and his cronies must be forced to resign for the good of the nation.

...because it is readily apparent that you want to deliberately ignore what's unfolded before your very eyes. Herr Busch failed to react and people died. Period.

Here's the bottom line...Herr Busch has the last say on everything that happens in response to a natural disaster or terrorist attack. That buck CANNOT be passed to anyone else...it is superglued to Herr Busch's forehead, front and center.

As far as your inference that the governors didn't make the calls quickly enough, the governors of Louisiana and Mississippi made the calls BEFORE the storm struck, and Alabama was very quick to follow.
