We should collect stories, images and videos of the horror in New Orleans
Not to be morbid, or anything, but for the last few days, the story has been one of horror. I've seen videos of people pleading for help, for food, for water. We've seen images of people breaking down and crying. That video of the man who tried to hold onto his wife, but she was swept out of his hands was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever seen. "I couldn't hold on. She's gone now..." That was the biggest tear jerker yet. This morning, I saw the guy crying telling of the dead bodies floating by his home. People are holding up signs asking for help. There have been acts of outrageous lawlessness. Wanton murder and burglary. There have been stories of rape.
We need to document all of this. There are stories of heroism that can already be told, and there are many more that will be able to be told in the near future.
Don't let the right wingers claim that the help was immediate, or that heroism was the only story. Document every image that tells the true story of the tragedy. It's wonderful that help is now arriving, but we must be ready to hold the right wingers feet to the fire, for the poor planning, and poor early response.
