As I was driving around Dallas, after discussing the incompetence, callousness, etc., concerning my city (I wasn't born in New Orleans, but I've been ther 40 years - anyone who saw the Saints run back their first play from scrimmage for a touchdown....), I thought, why not use the truth to educate the American people? Here's the script:
Ad 1:
Cindy Sheehan asking, "What noble cause?" cut to clip of Bush "Saddam has weapons of mass destruction" cut to clip of Bush "Saddam is building nukes"
Cindy Sheehan, "You said my son died in a noble cause." cut to clip of Bush "Saddam was linked to 9/11 & al Qaeda" Bush "Taking out Iraq is part of the war on terror" back to Cindy, "What nobe cause?" Bush "We have to build democracy in Iraq" Bush "We have to stay because of those that have died." Cindy "what noble cause, Mr. Bush?"
Fade out with one of these sayings in black and white. Either, Mr. Bush, stop lying. Stop lying to the American people, Mr. Bush Mr.Bush, when will you stop lying? When will the lies stop? Why doesn't Mr. Bush tell the truth? Why doesn't Mr. Bush trust the American people?
Personally, I like, "when will the lies stop?" or "When will the lies stop, Mr. Bush?"
Ad 2, same format Bush: "No one could anticipate the levee breaking" Quote from Maestri, head of hurricane preparedness, from June 2004 about the need for upgrading the levees. Bush: "No one could anticipate the levee breaking" Headline from Houston Chronicle, early 2001, based on Fema report about the 3 disasters, in order: SF earthquake, terrorist attack on NY, hurricane hitting N.O., and that being the worst Bush: "No one could anticipate the levee breaking" Head of FEMA (or Army CoE) fired for criticizing levee protection. Bush: "No one could anticipate the levee breaking" Rep. Bobby Jindal, (a good man, btw, even though far too right wing in some of his politics, thus) REPUBLICAN representative from LA, about his begging for money for levees Bush: "No one could anticipate the levee breaking" One more quote, maybe from the Times-Picayune expose.
And conclude with either: The American people aren't fools (or ... aren't fooled anymore, Mr. Bush.) A leader listens. If you're a leader, you accept responsibility When will you stop lying, Mr. Bush? Perhaps best of all: Close with Bush's own quote, "This is unacceptable." Fade with Black and white: You've got that right.
Someone please pass this on to moveon.org, or whoever might put it into action.
