The PNAC WARS have begun........and we are just watching......or do some of us feel that we've participated...so our conscience is clean.

It's the war of GOOD VS. EVIL......in my mind.....and many here on DU are more pragmatic..and you might differ.....about whether Iraq Invasion was what we "needed to do" or not.

I'm really sort of wondering what DU "Cold War" victims....are thinking.......but those of us who grew up then are few in number here.

BUT........IRAQ and the ME is for you "young DU'ers" ......YOUR new Cold War........do you want to spend your money and your life......and your kids lives......chasing what Nixon said was "Domino Effect" that the Middle East is a THREAT to your children.....and the TERRORISTS are at the Gate?

I lived through that "PROPAGANDA!" I never wanted another American to live through "propaganda" like that......but you've been "suckered in" and you will believe it with your salaries (if you have a job), your life, your children's lives...and your heart and soul.....because of FEAR! Over 9/11.

And you will someday see what some of us see.......OR, maybe you will be smarter? :shrug:

1. Parallels to the 50's and 60's

Thre is much to be said about the current social atmosphere that feels like America of the 50's and 60's.

The marketing of fear with our orange alerts is alot like the duck and cover drills of my youth. "When you see the flash kids, get under your desks"

The drive to conformity is the much the same. "You are with the President or with the terrorists" - "all anti-war protesters are communist sympathizers".

We need to turn the corner on this stuff just like we did in the late 60's, one more time. We can only hope that it is the last time.

3. THE GOPNAC and the Murkan aristocracy

need a monolithic boogeyman to keep us in line.

They figured this out when the Germans conveniently showed them the lucrative power of the military-scientific-industrial complex. Stalin et al conveniently gave them a sequel. Now, the Russians are all used up--no more box office there--so they need a new one. Why not the evil Arab?

We'll gladly fork over $87B now and then without asking too many quesitons. We'll not worry too much about half the people we know being unemployed or grossly underemployed. We'll obediently work longer hours for less money and send our children to ever more underfunded schools. No biggie as long as they protect us from the evil muslim evil doer!

4. I'm deeply concerned.

When you see how long the PNAC'ers have been yearning and planning for a chance to get their hands on the levers of power, and to remake America, you have to doubt that they'll give it up.

That could mean anything from massive election fraud to no election at all awaits you in '04.
