Sadly, we predicted it...
A lot of people on DU saw Bush's poll numbers flagging right as he was going on vacation and got visions of 2001 when another devastating event happened. A lot of people here had a gut feeling that something horrible was going to happen this summer while Bush was on vacation.

Looks as though something horrible has happened. Something that could have been prevented or at least mitigated if somebody had done their job.

I'm so sad that we were right. I'm so sad that the person charged with leading this country is incapable of doing so. I'm so sad that so many more people have to fall victim to these short-sighted profiteering policies.

This is a very sad day for this country.

1. Yep. You heard it hear first
Bush planned this to divert attention away from his other failings, klling thousands in the process.

Makes perfect sense.

5. Except his pathetic response
just made his failings even more painfully obvious than they already were.

7. He didn't plan the hurricane...
But he sure gutted the defense of the city by slashing funding for the levees.

Once the disaster hit, he did nothing to get food and water and relief to the city.

8. Yep he's a monster for sure
He looked at the hurricane and said "Now's my chance. It's just lucky I slashed funding to the city leevees - now to hamstring our national responders so as many people as possible die. Because, for the purposes of Distracting America away from my other failings, I need to kill as many people as possible!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!"

2. Bush could have saved himself and his numbers.
By doing the right thing and getting those people out. Sending supplies. He didn't. His numbers will be in the teens by two weeks.

4. Long on war, short on civil defense.
The Bush Legacy. War on Terror? What a joke. They declared war on the environment....and they lost.
