1. Who were the people that New Orleans allowed into the Super-dome
...prior to Katrina making landfall and how have these people been treated?

3. Did these people go into the Super-dome voluntarily or were they
...rounded up by New Orleans authorities and forced to go into the stadium?

4. don't step me through this.. make your point.
these people had no place else to go. they were told they would be safe and be taken care of there. I don't have time to play 20 questions with you.

5. Sorry, it just seems from your original post that the situation is...
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 07:35 AM by whistle
...turning into a riot much like a major prison riot. I thought you might have an insight as to what would prompt that. Have these people been held there against their will? Have armed guards been posted from the beginning, possibly intimidating the victims? Have food, water, dry clothing been deliberately withheld by officials?

The official explanation has been that the people in the Super-dome were being offered a safe haven of last resort, before the brunt of Katrina actually hit. It seems now that it has been anything but safe and now poses as a post hurricane threat bigger than Katrina to the 20,000 people how were put there.

There is no need to get testy with me. I'm as baffled as you about what has taken place.

6. there is a fire in the building
I am listening to the Lousiana State Police scanner communicate with the guards at the superdome. The fire is growing.. the buses have been held up all night. the guard is letting people out the north side of the building and they have been ordered to hold the perimeter at the south side of the building. It is a near riot situation. My fear is that these people are all going to die. BTW the mainstream is talking about evac being suspended because of shot being fired at helos. I have not heard the guard or police talk about this. telling firemen to leave, guard can't secure them.

these people have walked into a deathtrap I fear.

7. if there had been enough NG on the ground
at the beginning of all this it wouldn't have spiraled out of control like this. now a lot more people will die.

8. the building should have been used as an evacuation point to not an
evacuation center. they had a good 48 hours to get the buses rolling and people out of the city somewhere safe before the storm. Many could have made several trips in and out. It's neither here or there now. I'm still listening and it appears that the fire is under control but they're anxious to get the firmen out. Hopefully another tragedy has been averted and they will allow the buses that have been lined up all night to get in there and get those people out.

11. I heard the guard tell them to go originally
Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 07:57 AM by notadmblnd
because they said they couldn't do anything until the portable extinguishing units had arrived and the guard could'nt secure their safty. Unless there some code that they're using, I haven't heard any of these police or guards speak of shootings.
