"Go to our web site to file claims." AARGGH!
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 08:55 AM by Atman
Are bureaucrats REQUIRED to be clueless dolts? Miles O'Solidad was just asking a disaster relief official "What are people to do? How do they let you know they need help?" She gave out their toll free phone number to file a claim. "But you understand, these people have no phones, they're on their roofs...how do they get help now?"

The woman's response was, seriously now -- "We've also set up a web site where they can file a claim..."

I'm just dumbfounded. But the woman's dress was very pretty, and she looked like she enjoyed a nice warm shower that morning. I hope she didn't get any of the Mississippi mud on her Prada shoes.

1. The fact that the inmates have been running Asylum America for too long
is about to bite a lotta people in the consciousness. Not just in politics, but across the spectrum, insanity has been the rule of so many days a lot of people don't even realize they are promoting it.

2. I thought she was wearing a windbreaker...
and not a scrap of make-up.

I thought HE was the one being ridiculous. She said, "We have toll free numbers and a website for claims." and he said, "But people have no power or phone service, how can they make a claim??" Jesus H. Christ!! The whole frigging place is either under debris or WATER and they are not even allowing people back in NO SHIT they can't make a claim quite yet. She said that as soon as they were told they could get in there, State Farm would have claims officers on the ground, but right now the ONLY way to make a claim is by phone or by the website. Why is that HER fault?

4. Oh, and did you think she faked those tears when she talked about
praying for the lives of the people in her parish? She's from there. She was a local State Farm representative. She has probably lost some of her own stuff and knows some of the people that are dead or missing. She was doing the best she could.

5. Miles' question was not ridiculous. Her answer was.
He specifically said he was talking about people still in the area. Remember, they weren't in NO under water, they were standing on "dry" land in Sidell. People need help. How can they get help.

The answer was "Go to our website."

That is not the woman's "fault." It is her utter lack of perspective and preparedness. Why did she even offer such a lame response? How about "Well, we understand that people may not have access..." or something that didn't make it sound so "Let them eat cake" like. Telling a stranded home owner to visit a website is insensitive and makes "them" sound completely out of touch. Tact, I suppose, was in order. She seemed clueless that telephones and computers run on electricity and stuff, you know?

6. You'd be surprised how many people just don't quite get it when it
comes to stuff like that.

Hell, I've encountered the same level of idiocy on things like internet outages for my company. While calling Symantec for a broken firewall device:

Me: I need some assistance with getting the license re-enabled on my firewall. Without it, my company has no internet access and we can't send or receive e-mail.

Symantec Rep: Okay, I can help you with that. What you need to do is go to licensing.symantec. . .

Me: Let's try this again. I do NOT HAVE ANY INTERNET ACCESS UNTIL I GET THIS WORKING.

Rep: Okay, then send an e-mail to XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Me: Let's see. How can I phrase this so you understand? I . . . DON'T . . . . HAVE . . . INTERNET . . . ACCESS. . . . AT . . . . THIS . . . TIME.

Rep: Okay, let me check with my supervisor to see what we can do.

Me: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

_________

Even support reps aren't too intelligent when it comes to simple concepts like "If you can't get to the web, you can't fill out a request on the web site."
