The Limbaugh Paradox
I'm sure many of my fellow DU'ers are familiar with the Equine Paradox. (How can there possibly be more horse's asses than there are horses?) Well, after listening to pigboy spend fully half of this afternoon's show attempting to lay responsibility for his comments vis a vis Donovan McNabb on anyone other than himself, I am now forced to attempt to unravel the Limbaugh paradox. (How can anyone possibly be that fat and still remain totally gutless?)

1. It's actually a purely Republican paradox of "personal responsibility"
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 08:59 PM by Dr Fate
it's always "the media" or "the Liberals" its NEVER their own short commings...

They cannot own up to their hate, because lying and shifting blame goes hand and with a philosophy that cannot stand up to truth, facts and, well, goodness.

2. Projection
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 08:32 PM by rwenos
I'd put the responsibility in another area of social science -- i.e., psychology.

The Pubbie ability to blame Dem's for EXACTLY what they do themselves (the Big Lie; propaganda; blaming the victim, etc.) has always impressed me as only explanable by the psychological principle of projection -- i.e., I blame you of the thing I myself am doing, to divert attention from the fact I am doing it.

3. Exactly!
If you had heard him today (what can I say, I just need to know what the fringe is thinking) you would have heard an endless litany of "I'm being persecuted", and "Those who are protesting my statement are intolerant", and "What happened to my free speech rights?". In other words, I'm a victim.

5. I used to have a girlfriend who accused me of cheating
all the time. I wasn't. But if I left the house for two minutes to go buy a container of milk she was sure that I had fucked 20 women on the way there and back. I couldn't understand why she felt this way. Later on, I found out she had been cheating on me.

This is what Republicans do. They accuse Democrats (or anyone who doesn't swallow their bullshit) of treason, class warfare, freedom-destroying, and so forth, when in fact it's their stock in trade. It's a classic case of the psychological phenomenon known as "projection". Oldest trick in the book.

4. Pandering
Rush Limbaugh is a shamless panderer. Unfortunately, he's got a constituency -- right wing a**holes.

I heard a woman in an office once say (after hearing an auto accident occur outside her windows) that 'Bill Clinton caused that car accident --- I heard it on Rush.I

With an appeal to intellects like that, what else could we call it but pandering? Fellatio?

6. He hasn't adjusted to his new audience
I used to listen to him for fifteen minutes every now and then just to be amazed at the blather coming out of his mouth and to better understand how he was indoctrinating the BushBot Voters.

He constantly makes bigoted statements on his "excellence(sic) in broadcasting" thingy. His audience, of course, loved it. With the ESPN audience, there is actually more of a moderate audience and even (shrieeek!) many African Americans. I would be willing to bet a large portion of my meager net worth that Limpballs has practically zero audience on the radio show.

He will adjust and make his racist statements more obtuse and "defendable"

7. What new? Novacula did the same thing today
Essentially after all his blabbering, here is the translation -

"Everyone else lied except me."

What's the old repuke saying - O, Yeah, everyone in prison believes they're innocent.

Take that you slimy reptilians!:P
