The Big Easy Double-whammy...

The Big Easy will be dealing with this water for a couple of weeks. Look at the colored area, almost all of it drains back down the Mississippi. So, the city will likely flood tomorrow and hopefully the river levees will hold, but what will the flood stage be when all that water comes back down to the gulf? The bowl could be full for three or more weeks.

3. If you think it's bad now, wait till global warming gets going.
Say goodbye to Florida, most of Texas, Louisiana, and quite possibly large swathes of the Midwest.

4. Center is moving at 13 mph, up from 7 mph yesterday.
At 200 miles across, we're talking 15 hours of tropical storm or greater rates of rainfall over every square foot of territory. If it slows down as it turns north, that's even more rainfall. The sole 'blessing' is that the eye is projected to pass to the east of New Orleans (not so good for Gulfport and Mobile), so New Orleans won't get the worst of the northeast quadrant of Katrina.

6. They were talking about it tracking just West of NO...
A few mins ago. 90W Lon. line apparently runs through downtown. That would be worst case for NO. Picking up speed is good news though.

Camille's eye came in at Bay St.Louis, Ms. which is the track you described, which would be best case at this point.
