I think we have another "Jeff Gannon" polluting the Web!
Anyone ever seen this guy (Doug Thompson) at any of the White House Press briefings?

Here's some info from his Website "Capitol Hill Blue." <http://www.capitolhillblue.com/>

Actually it's from the "foundation" that he, and only he, runs called the "Save America Foundation"
<http://www.saveamerica.org/>

(This is info from his website)

"Capitol Hill Blue is a not-for-profit, non-commercial experiment in on-line journalism published by The Save America Foundation as an information resource for our readers."

It was founded by Doug Thompson who loves himself so much he wrote a very LONG page about himself and his "achievements," here's a link: <http://www.saveamerica.org/founder.html>

Here's some of what his "Our Founder" Page contains:

"...Thompson took a sabbatical from newspapers in 1981 and moved to Washington and work on Capitol Hill, where he served as press secretary to two members of Congress (Rep. Paul Findley of Illinois and Rep. Manuel Lujan of New Mexico), Chief of Staff to a third (Rep. Dan Burton of Indiana) and then Special Assistant to the Ranking Member of the House Space, Science and Technology Committee (Lujan again). He also worked on the Reagan-Bush '84 re-election campaign, managed successful Congressional campaigns, did field work for both the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee and served as Vice President for Political Programs Administration for the National Association of Realtors from 1987-1992. He later joined The Eddie Mahe Company, a Washington, DC, strategic communications firm, as senior communications associate and remained affiliated with the firm until it was acquired by Foley-Lardner in 2002...."

(clip)

"...The House Science committee worked with the National Science Foundation to bring the Internet into the private sector and Thompson, while working for the committee, saw the tremendous potential of the 'Net as a communications tool. He used that foresight to start a web hosting and design company in 1994 and that same year launched Capitol Hill Blue as the web's first political news site.

Besides Blue, Thompson publishes a number of other web sites, including D.C. Darkside., American Newsreel and FloydCounty.Com. He also owns Blue Ridge Creative, a photography, video production and digital imaging company in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. In 2001, Thompson and his wife launched the Our America project, a 10-year program to document the first decade of the new century through videos, photography and written essays...."

On the "Our Mission" Page He writes:

"...Save America is a not-for-profit, non-partisan educational foundation created by journalist and photographer Doug Thompson, who also founded Capitol Hill Blue and a number of other web sites and publications.

Save America exists solely to try and cut through the partisanship and misinformation that dominates the Internet and bring facts to the attention of our readers. We have no ax to grind, no hidden agendas to develop, no political philosophies to push.

Save America is funded entirely out of Thompson's personal resources.

We have projects both underway and in the planning stages. Stay tuned for more details..."

I think it is very clear that this guy (and his website) is the "project" of a RW Propaganda Pusher, with the goal of putting out "misinformation," or Dis-info as it's called now.

Also, the 1994 "founding" of the RW on-line cyber-rag corresponds nicely with the flood of "misinformation" that slithered around the Clinton Impeachment.

On Edit: Another Clue the "Save America Foundation" has NO e-mail addresses! They DO have a P.O. Box though, mighty odd for a "not-for-profit, non-partisan educational foundation" created back in 1994.

Send you hate mail to:

3. Isn't this the source of the story about B*sh cussin' out Cindy?
And didn't they print the pic of the VFW guy with the bullshit detector on his ear? Now how exactly does that one get spun to make the left look bad?

Maybe the guy is just a gossip rag wannabe who likes to share tidbits to prove he's inner circle.

He's got a stupid modus operendi if he's Rove's undercover guy. Hmmm...

4. The picture of the VFW guy was from a Canadian paper
...and was a legitimate, for-real photograph. Not quite the same kind of thing as Capitol Hill Blue's endless "stories" about Bush flipping out, which are fabrications by a con-man. My take on him is that he's essentially an entrepreneur in the fertile field of kookdom, feeding people what they want to hear, as opposed to a Rovian plant. For one thing, Rove doesn't set people up who are as obviously unreliable as this guy.

In other words, plant phony info on the web, then sit back and see if anyone takes the Hook, reports it on their blog, then it gets picked up by some Major "news" organization.

If it does, then destroy that News Organizations credibility by ridiculing the bogus info they reported.

9. Yes, but a "Rather"-type sting
...requires a cut-out that's going to be taken seriously by the sting-ee. Nobody cites Capitol Hill Blue or takes it seriously except some deluded fans on DU. During the Clinton years the fans were on freerepublic, since back then the stories had Clinton in the throes of a nervous breakdown, etc.

7. Yes, it is where the "...story about B*sh cussin' out Cindy" came from.
I don't know where the VFW guy picture came from (I think it came from a news wire or a Canadian paper as the poster below said)

13. Oh well, I told everyone I sent the cussin' story to that it came from
an unreliable source. Every single person wrote back and said they believed anyway.

convention is quaint to the regime, but please.

Retinas are a terrible thing to waste.

11. Nah
He's just another guy who's a bit obsessive about his site's popularity ("longest running political site on the web"). 99% of his stuff is boilerplate -- a few rants, some commentary, some analysis. A couple times a year he tosses out an "insider account" about unhinged Dubya to goose his traffic. It works. He's far from alone in doing that, and far from the worst.

14. I don't know, I think all RW Dis-info is dangerous
I don't think we should dismiss any of it, especially when it fooled so many here at DU.

12. well that would certainly explain a lot
I wondered who owned CHB. It certainly hooked a lot of DUers, me included, with it's aricles over the last year or so. I caught on after not being able to verify the site or who owned it. It seemed like pentagon propaganda machine.
