Breaking Rank
Ok in our culture there is in every interaction between people a social HIERARCHY, A hierarchy made of tops and bottoms and layers in between competing for status by pushing their peers down to get a little respect from their superiors they admire which pushes them closer to the top.Saying the socially sanctioned perceptions in an eloquent way gets a person approval.Saying things contrary to popular beliefs gets you ridiculed.Even if the ridiculed perception might be closer to the truth, the popular lie always pulls RANK.Rank is a LIE.

Every time a person of a lower rank, like a fat person,a smoker,a handicapped person gets FED up with the abuses societies rank game causes in their life and says ENOUGH and tries to tell how it feels to be spat upon, and tries to build up their own self esteem they are breaking RANK. So in come the sarcastic comments, the critics, the funnyman bullies,in come detractors, minimizers, the me too crowd who want their issue sympathized with too. All to stop this person from saying they are tired of their low rank and tired of being treated as less of a person and they are going to feel good about who they are REGARDLESS of rank..

This is a social taboo. Fat people for instance are not allowed to love their bodies or love who they are. And the food police and health marms are there to make sure the guilt never stops and the sarcastic assholes make sure the shame never ends, and the critics make sure they are not taken seriously. This insures the status quo of the social hiearchy..that fat people are morally inferior..These busybody people are ensuring that no one of higher social rank loses face..( themselves..thin people who don't want to care about fat people and think fat people are ugly and inferior) .

I think all people have got to stop bashing weaker different or hurting people and realize this competing for competing rank is really competing to be respected, by someone else,to be heard by an authority ,protected by peers as a worthy member of the clique and wanted as a worthy human being despite the flaws we have.We are all weak living in an uncertain, unpredictable world where we could easily become homeless, poor, fat and despised by the beautiful people.

But in our society any flaw says weakness and weakness means we are unworthy of being who we are and must get rid of said flaw to be good enough to be accepted as a human being.

Rank and social hierarchy served the alphas of society very well.
We envy the lives these alphas lead. So we try to be like them, and when our flaws prevent us we attack those weaker and less socially loved.

It is always easier to kick a lower ranked person,an abused or weakened person,a disabled or fat,or somehow less perfect than yourself person with a good heart ,like a fellow scapegoat down than rise up and attack the kind of person you have been taught to emulate that everyone around you envies..It is terrifying for creatures that have been taught to submit from day one to break rank and stand behind the people that do.

People I think it is time we threw away that part of ourselves that greedy, competitive, hierarchical obedient to authority part of us that many of us deny is there.. I see it come out of people and it forms ugly group dynamics ugly US VS THEM games, whenever someone feels good about themselves that society says they are not entitled to feel good or feel hurt,or complain about mistreatment, that sickness in us is what says I am not good enough or worthy to be who I am and be loved..And we are taught to feel like this by people around us,the DOMINANT people, the Alphas, the popular and the admired ones.

We need to stop and ask ourselves why does society believe certain things??

Like thin people are more deserving of self esteem than fat ones?

Christians are better morally and deserve to be treated as moral authorities than non Christians?

The super wealthy who have anything they want and lives of ease deserve to get more money than I deserve? Who says greed is good?
Who says being poor is virtuous. And why do we not bother to look at the social rank of the people spouting these opinions..

Why do we believe in RANK? Why do we obey social hierarchies?

How much of it is taught to us by others?
how much of it is based in abuses in our life and used a way to avoid further humiliation or traumas?
How much of this hierarchy game is fear based? Genetic? Or the effects of a systematic exploitation we take as"normal"??

Why do we say you can't fight 'the powers that be' when we feel dominated and exploited and believe we must endure it?

What tells us we must endure it?

These are questions worth asking.

The time for throwing away hierarchy and giving respect to bullies is over,we have all been a victim of a criminal class, the peculiar charismatic personality of the"winner".It's time to stop the games and see the real cause of our distress it is not each other,it is the bully mind. And the bully people using the ugliest parts in us,to secure their own lofty social rank.

Our very survival might depend on throwing away pecking orders, hierarchy, status and chains of command and saying to the bullies and victims interrupting screaming meee tooo... who do not want to stand up for themselves but instead tear down others, to stop and l;ook at who the real oppressors are. It isn't hard..It is the bullies, the winner take all types, the dominants, the alphas, the entitled, the elitists..the people that say you are less worthy, thou shalt not be who you are because I do not LIKE it..

2. geez, that is pretty profound
in so many ways.
My first response is that most of what you cite, the reasons why people are discounted, or why others feel superior (or say they do) are
fairly...superficial? Money, beauty, social standing, fatness, thinness, smokers, drinkers, eloquent etc... are all things which one judges not by any standard that really matters.

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

We sure could use someone to place that passionate dream back in our hearts, and not be silenced until at last we CAN all shout "FREE AT LAST"

We will never get to feel we are ok as long as we are standing on the bodies of those we choose to hate and discount.- Until we ALL know freedom, none of us do.

Thanks for your very well expressed and deeply moving post Undergroundpanther-

YOU ROAR-

3. Great post....there's a thesis in there somewhere...
...it deserves to be expanded upon.

And I don't think we need to put this on hold while we take care of other things. Most of us here are able to address more than one issue/problem at a time. Of course, the problem is posts like this are a case of preaching to the choir, for the most part. In any case, I believe you deserve recognition and kudos for this.

Bravo! :applause:

The only sentence I took exception to was in the beginning of your post: "Every time a person of a lower rank, like a fat person,a smoker,a handicapped person gets FED up with the abuses societies rank game causes in their life and says ENOUGH and tries to tell how it feels to be spat upon, and tries to build up their own self esteem they are breaking RANK."

It got my hackles up, right off, as I perceived (incorrectly, as I found as I continued reading) that you assumed a fat person, for example, was of lower rank, not that they are perceived that way by some/many. So, if that sentence had read "Every time a person of a perceived lower rank..." my hackles would have stayed put. :)

4. Thank you all..

Mscajun:I raised those hackles of yours on purpose,to illustrate a point, sadly for some that comment would have made for no raised hackles ..or a different response from the reader. How your hackles responded to it says alot about YOUR GOOD character.Get my drift?

Anyways as for Eli's comment about how we have bigger fish to fry,I got to say this is THE big overarching invisible yet opressive fish that makes us fry and stew in our own juice it is the big elephant in the living room, that creates the culture that can say"I don't care" and last time I looked wasen't most of DU pissed off because BUsh does not give a rats ass over whom he tramples in his reaching to be the king of all?

As for the thesis comment.. I have been trying to get my shit together to write a book on this(and deeper)I even have a publisher asking ,but dammit I have problems organizing myself..

6. Social hierarchies are for wild animals and people who act like them
They have no place in civilized society, if you ask me.

Digital cable subscribers: go to On Demand and watch National Geographic Channel's The Search for the Ultimate Survivor--both parts. You'll see the findings that if bullies aren't bred out of the human race, we run the risk of extinction.

8. Either we breed them out
Or we kill them off.

We cannot live and let live with someone who would dominate or destroy us so they could "win" and take all.

Tyranny is incompatible with freedom.

And tyrants do not stop unless they are forcibly stopped.

All tolerance and pity is to a bully is permission to abuse and exploit more.

They are not the same as us they don't care about others,(however they can FAKE it)and caring about others and empathy is a building block of a peaceful cooperative society..

The Inuit Indians knew this, when a person in their tribe exhibited sociopath behaviors like rape or hoarding or abusing, if they showed the personality traits of authoritarianism, narcissism and sociopath, and were a "dominant" incompetent greedy bully, they were taken out on a "hunt" and as they were out walking on the ice floes, someone pushed them into the icy water to die.. There was no big fuss no circus, about whether he was a suffering bully or helpless in his sickness,to them it was simple he was a sociopath therefore a danger to the community. And the Inuit had a very egalitarian and free society that took care of all it's members the kind of society with values the liberals wish our country had lived up to.
