Protesters put aside politics during breakfast in Crawford

CRAWFORD - In the dining area of the Coffee Station restaurant this morning business was brisk, with tables occupied by both supporters of President Bush and those who are protesting the war in Iraq.
Outside, in the oppressive heat that was expected to reach triple digits again today, they shout their differing opinions. But in the Coffee Station they are quiet and polite, all on the same page when it comes to eggs and bacon or a stack of syrup-drenched pancakes.

Linda Loomis, a Bush critic from San Antonio, said she noticed the life-sized posters of the president when she entered the Crawford restaurant. "But I'm hungry, and this place is open," she said.

The owner of the Coffee Station, Dorothy Spanos, said she has fed a steady stream of customers from both sides of the political divide. "They're nice, they haven't caused any problems," she said.

Over a plate of pancakes, Bush supporter Robert Olson of San Antonio, said he wasn't bothered by sharing space with anti-war protesters, "This is America, they are entitled to their opinion."
