Marine Moms v. the cretins at Move America Forward
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 02:05 PM by TexasLawyer
Others have posted the announcements from ultra-creepy "Move America Forward" that it is organizing a rally of true patriots who will go down to Crawford to show Cindy Sheehan a thing or two about really supporting the troops and loving America. (As if!!!)

But I thought this aspect of the story deserves its own thread.

MAF is announcing that "Deborah Johns of Marine Moms (whose son has served in Operation Iraqi Freedom) will lead the caravan. We are pleased to announce that many other military families - including those who have lost loved ones in Iraq and the war against terrorism - will join us."

Yesterday I notified Marine Moms that their name was being used by MAF to promote their far-right political event.

The Marine Moms organization e-mailed me back, saying they knew nothing about this and that Marine Moms is not a political organization.

Here is the Marine Moms site:
http://www.marinemomsonline.net/

Then today I received this follow up from Marine Moms: "It has been reported that Deborah is the head of Marine Moms of America. I didn't know there was such a group. Deborah is the head of the Northern California Marine Moms but it is not affiliated with Marine Moms Online."

I even heard from a Marine Moms moderator, who said that she totally approved of what Cindy was doing and would actually be down in Crawford with Cindy, if only she could be. Don't you love that???

Groups like Move America Forward are trying to give themselves legitimacy by swiping the name and honor of decent organizations like "Marine Moms."

We need to call them on their bullshit every time!

1. Or, there's always the Karl Rove approach
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 02:10 PM by TexasLawyer
It would be hilarious to found a new group called Move America Forward of America, shorten the name to "Move America Forward" in all press releases and banners, and then publicly promote liberal causes all over the country.

MAF (of America) could do "in your face" things like disrupt Rush Limbaugh tapings, all while proudly flying the MAF banner.

That's my Rovian fantasy for the day.

2. But the idea is to appropriate the credibility of a respected organization
...and Move America Forward is far from being that.

5. You're right, BUT...
wouldn't it just piss them off beyond all reason?

In terms of enhanced credibility, there's no earthly advantage in swiping the MAF name, that's why the only person who would do such a purely vindictive, pointless thing is a Karl Rove-type.

8. Isn't it, though? I haven't looked at the "MS"M the same since I read
Greg Palast explain how CBS (I think) confirmed there were no dubious expulsions from the Florida voter rolls in 2000 because they called the White House and asked them.

9. "Non-partisan" my A$$
Here is how they describe themselves for IRS purposes.

"About Move America Forward

Move America Forward is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization committed to supporting America’s efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces."
